Question:

Smoke/mist out of A/C vents?

I was on my way to Kansas City from St. Louis which is about 4-5 hours. I would say about 30 miles before I got to Kansas City, I started to smell something but thought it was from outside and I turned off the A/C since I was cold as well. Then in the next few minutes, there was smoke or mist coming out of the vents but it stopped once I turned A/C back on. No distinct smell or anything from the "smoke." What could it be?... I looked online and found several possibilities. My car is a 93' Oldsmobile 88 Royale with only 18,000 miles (yes, eighteen thousand.) I also looked at the temperature gauge and it was under 200 unless it is not working. PS I do plan to take it to the shop in the morning so I would appreciate any ideas/possibilities before then. Thanks!

  1. YOUR A/C WORKS TOO GOOD FOR THE BLOWER MOTOR BOX TO CLEAR. THERE ISN'T A PROBLEM.

  2. is probably just condensation if it dint smell like when you open the freezer door but with the fan you dint notice, take it to a shop anyways to make sure since you make a long drives and is hot out ther!

  3. I can't give you the answer until I look at it.

  4. Ahh! the world famous Delta 88, the only the serious mistake of designing the car was with a gas tank made from recycled Shop-Rite plastic bags. This car was so successful that they stopped making them 54 days later.

What really works well on this car is that the condenser is more powerful than the engine, initially it pumps the freon so well that the metal cools fast and creates condensation (that is the "smoke").

  5. could be a heater core leaking but most likly the a/c evaporator core is trying to freezing up and causes a mist to come out of the register due to the cold air coming out
