I smoke about 20 a day, when I'm on a night out, and drinking quite a bit i smoke about 30/40.

Why? Every other smoker i know agrees, but no one really knows why. Any light to be shed?

Thanks.

  1. Because you're spending a lot of time drinking but not a lot of time smoking. The result is your cigarettes keep burning down with you only taking a few puffs on each one. But you still need your fix so you keep lighting them and smoking them inefficiently while trying to drink a lot at the same time.

  2. Almost certainly because drinking is a CNS depressant and smoking is a CNS stimulant. I've noticed that people smoke more when they use other CNS depressants as well.

  3. Drinking lowers your ability to make rational decisions.  Since smoking is a stupid thing to do, it follows that you'd do even more of it when drinking.

  4. inhibitions are lowered from drinking. Some people say that it keeps them on "balance" when they do this, whatever that means.
