  1. I am a smoker.

But I live in Cali and there has been a smoking ban in bars and restaurants for 10 years (at least) here.

It's no big deal to me at all. You get used to it.

I don't smoke in my house anyway so I guess smoking indoors is pretty much a novel idea at this point.

Nor do I feel that non-smokers should have to share my bad habit.

  2. For me, it's a question of workers' rights against smokers' rights. In a pub, restaurant, shop etc, customers (smokers or non-smokers) have a choice whether or not to be there - the employees don't. Workers' rights win.

Banning smoking altogether would be another step (right or wrong).

  3. smoking is not as deadly as drunk drivers oil rigs spilling tons of oil in our waters and on our streets after an accident.aids, cancer, germ war fare agent orange from Vietnam that is still killing men and women.if second hand smoke bothers people move over a couple seats and keep the fan on the smoke will not even reach the other person, its ridiculous.

  4. I used to smoke for many years but gave it up 4 years ago. When the smoking ban started in Ireland, we thought it was going to affect dramatically bars, hotels sales and so on. And it did, initially. After that, people got used to it and I have to say it is great going to a pub for a drink and not having to breathe in the smoke of others. If I go on holidays to Spain, for instance, It makes clearer it was the best thing ever to happen!

  5. should be well ventilated area in non food pubs this is against our rights landlords should be able to choose either to have smoking or no smoking areas

  6. its more benefitial to every1 this way

  7. the idea behind the ban was not to stop peoples free choice to smoke as that would be against civil liberties, even though it is bad for your health. if that was the case you would have to ban all sorts of things, drinking, dangerous sports etc. the idea of the ban was so that non smokers were not subjected to passive smoking against their will.

  8. does smoking become harmless when you have to walk through  a pile of smokers in the street by the time i get along the road i'm stinking of smoke with my lungs burning way to go labour morons

  9. It seem that you guy/gals in the UK are now getting hit with a smoking ban. We here have been living with it for a while, I do smoke and I miss going to a restaurant, having a meal and a few drinks and having a nice conversation. Now you are not allowed to smoke. So you don't stick around anymore. Also, at bars it has to be a private club to allow smoking. It sucks,

but I understand the reasoning. The whole second hand smoke situation. I just wish they would not treat us as second hand citizens.  I realize it is more of a problem as there are more Europeans that smoke and enjoy their Pubs . I doubt this will go away. They keep trying to tax  more, our buying cigarettes, and they won't be happy till they have banned smoking all together. Now you can't even smoke in your own car if their is a child present. Next they will be telling us that you can't even smoke in your own house.

  10. lets do what the spanish do..... apply to the local gov for a smoking licence that way non smokers can keep away from the smoking pubs and smokers can go to those pubs  everyone should be happy then.

  11. Im a on and off smoker myself and I still can't stand 2nd hand smoke so I think it is a good idea to ban smoking in certain areas.

  12. With modern air conditioning, I can't see why there should be any conflict. Can it be impossible to have one room set aside for smokers? Maybe there could just be a door between the rooms & an open window in the smoker's room? How hard can it be?

  13. The ban is the best idea in years.  No point having "No Smoking" areas inside and signs as smoke cant read!!!!

  14. I enjoy smoking  but hate it when in the past I  have been eating a nice meal and  somebody on a nearby table lights up and the smoke  drifts toward my table I do not mind the smoking  ban  personally as most of my drinking  places  have made provisions for smokers & smoking outside in summer is not a problem  for me  as for the goverment  dictating what we do that is the whole point of a government   to a certain point! My   wife worked in a bar a few years ago  and the bar had a strict employee dress code so she had to buy a new outfit for every day of the week  as after a night  behind the bar her clothes  would  stink of smoke  and she had to get them dry cleaned out of her own  meagre  wages  so in fairness to the bar staff it is a good thing   and I can go for a few hours without a ciggy  and  pub life is not the same as it was a few years ago when I  would  stay in one pub  for a couple of hours my friends & I tend to visit several  pubs on a night out so we have plenty of time for a smoke  between pubs/ bars

  15. i think the smoking ban is a great idea! we've had it in ireland for a while now and its a great success

  16. hi im a smoker ,and i think its great has i have 2 children and i have never smoked inn the house ,it smells and its just horrible i smoke in the garden thats it if i not even smoke around my children why should others its greqat, great ,great

  17. i hate smokers

  18. I smoke and it is so nice to go into a smoke free pub. My children can now come with us. I don't mind going outside to smoke and if the weather is bad there are 2 pubs in town which have really good shelters for smokers. HOWEVER.. someone said that the next step is to ban smoking in the street!!!! No way that would be going to far!

  19. I think so people have go a hold of the wrong end of the stick as usuall. IT IS NOT A CIGERETTE ban, it is a smokeless zone area that means that you cannot smoke a pipe, cigars, cigerettes, clay pipe's and even bubble pipe. If it produces smoke then you can't smoke it even herbal cigarettes and a no no.I know it is not to popular with a lot of people but this is to try and reduce the hazards of smoking in confined areas. So looking at it that way yas it's a good thing but spoiling peoples plesure if you can call it a plesure killing one's self slowly then I can see the point. then why is it that the govermment make such a huge revinue from the sale of tobacco. They might just as well dan it altogether if there so concerned. and not allow it to be sold in shops etc. It's like everything else half a job. just like the euro, we are ether haveing it or we are not so why don't they make up there minds. as most of urop have now changed to the euro here we are at the back of the que once again.

  20. anti smokers are boring and miserable people with nothing better to do than moan their arses off, the bans in and you are still moaning

  21. i am a smoker. i think there should be no smoking where food is served and smoking and non smoking pubs. this way everyone has a choice instead of smokers being treated like leapers

  22. Smoking should be banned - it's antisocial, it's bad for your health as well as mine, and I don't want to inhale stale smoke. A smoke-free atmosphere is wonderful - let's keep the air clean!

  23. great 2nd hand smoking...ickkk

  24. I am delighted with the ban. At long last I can enjoy a night out without being assailed by other peoples' second hand smoke. It is wonderful going home after a night out with my clothes smelling the same as when I went out.

  25. not many answes for this one   but on holliday recently, out side a pup at a table  it said , on a lable , it is illeagle to smoke at this table;  a bit to far even for my liberal views

  26. Should we allow a bunch of narrow minded people to dictate to us that they are allowed to smoke. At the end of the day passive smoking is real. I have never got drunk from passive drinking, which is why we needed a ban. I think it's great that I have the ability, finally, to go out and have a beer in a pub without smelling like an ashtray.

If it's really an issue, move somewhere where there is no smoking ban. It's quite simple really. Either that or sit in your own house and invite your fellow smokers there. At least I stay healthy and your house and people end up with the smell and health risks. It doesn't take much to put a bar in your house, and the off licence is cheaper than the pub anyway.

  27. i agree to a certain point but if a group of smokers got together and wanted to open a smoking club they would not be allowed and this is democracy great and we criticise china

  28. WE are more than happy that you are very restricted as to where you can smoke

    we like breathing cleaner air.

  29. Yes someone has to start somewhere and who other than the gov't be authorized to implement the ban. After all not only does it feel uncomfortable and offensive to be inhaling second hand smoke it has been proven that it is detrimental to one's health.

In the community where I live in Canada one of the major employers not only banned smoking in the work area. They have it banned from even smoking in your own car so long as the vehicle is on their property.

  30. Ban it!  No one has a right to jeopardize my health because of a filthy habit they have.  I don't want it anywhere around me!
