Smoking Mate (yerba mate)?

I am big on smoking herbs due to their healing powers, the high being a bonus. Has anyone smoked mate or have any info on the effects of smoking mate or health benefiets?

The first way that I tried yerba was smoking it.  It actually has a mildly sour taste, but it's a pleasant sour.  The smoke's fairly harsh.  It seems to give me the same effects that drinking it does, but it may just be placebo, because I can't find anything stating whether or not smoking it gives any actual effect.

It's good to smoke, but I would definitely rather drink it.

Heck yeah for smoking herbs though.  Even though I primarily stick to my sweet mary jane, I still enjoy the occasional Damiana/Skullcap/Spearmint blend.
