  1. ,Well, even as a smoker I have to agree that the air is much better in pubs now.  Also, as others have said you do have an empathy with the smokers outside.  Interestingly though, many pubs have closed and most pubs are very empty since the ban.  Where are all the non smokers who complained that smokers were the reason they didn't use pubs?  Maybe smokers are also more likely to be drinkers as well.  I definitely think there should have been smoking rooms in pubs.  Still the summer is coming and it is nice outside then.

  2. I think the Bar owners should be able to designate their business as smoking or non-smoking, and the customer can decide where they want to go. If it is possible to have smoking or non smoking rooms where the smoke is isolated from the non smoking areas then why not?

  3. I am a smoker, and I have met some very interesting and sometimes attractive people outside in the cold and the rain on nights out.  I think the anti smoking laws are about not being able to smoke in anyone's workplace, so it wouldn't be fair on the bar staff would have to collect glasses and empty ash trays in the said smoking room.  To caleb above who doesn't want us to congregate outside buildings and smoke, where would you like us to go?  In urban areas, we wouldn't be able to get a certain number of feet away from any building.

  4. yes i would agree on having a smoke rooms in bars. this will protect the rights for non-smokers.but as well the smokers can stills smoke in the bars.the smoke rooms must convenient and comfortable.but pity in my town, there are no smoke rooms for smoker.so i still have to breath smoke-polluted bars!!

  5. i thought this was a free country not any more with the goverment taking control over us all

  6. Every day, I hear more and more nonsense about smoking!

If smoking is such a terrible habit, how come the Government permits the import of tobacco, processing and manufacture,  marketing and sale?

The Government appears to want the taxes tobacco generates and the right to treat smokers as pariahs and lepers!  And that is an incomprehensible position, surely!

If they believed their own propaganda, they would instigate a total ban tomorrow!

If smoking is to be permitted, as you point out, it would be sensible and civilised if every pub, club or bar, had a smoke room.  Making customers go outside, in any weather, every time they want a drag, is ludicrous.

The reason bars are suffering from the ban is that most of their customers are outside smoking, and not drinking inside!  It really is a sad commentary on our times!

However, perhaps a funny story will help lighten our mutual  gloom on this subject.

Recently, I was talking to a lad who smokes, and asked him how the ban affected him.  He said it saved him money, and then being queried on this, he explained.  One of his main reasons for going to a pub was to pick up girls.  Since the ban, he sat outside, enjoying his ciggie- and waited for the girls to come out to him!  He saved money- because he no longer had to offer to buy them a drink to get into a conversation!  They just came to him anyway!  Brilliant!

Incidentally, I haven't smoked for 35 years- but it's been hard!

  7. As a non smoker I say no. Why should someone who wishes to kill themselves be allowed to take me with them when clearly I do not wish to breathe smoke in.

As a matter of fact I resent that they congregate outside of buildings and light up. There should be a law instituted saying they cannot be within a certain number of feet also, or better still they can smoke at home.

I don't have a problem with them doing it, far be it from me to try and tell anyone how to die but don't impose your death wish on me.

  8. If they have doors that stay closed, then sure...but a lot of pubs are open throughout all sections and so smoke can still spread.

It's not just other customers it effects, but staff too! They have to work in it.

  9. I think the ban is correct but in the case of bars has gone too far, nobody should have to breathe in smoke, but having a seperate room inside for smokers surely would be better. The industry has suffered terribly since the ban was introduced and is only going to get worse.

  10. Separate smoking rooms were promised by the government in their manifesto but, like many other things, they lied about it. It will never change because all the major parties voted in favour of the total ban.

  11. I don't think it is fair for non-smokers to have to breathe in the fumes from cigarettes. It would have been good to have smoking and non-smoking bars so that people could make a choice.

I hate smoking outside in the winter - but I have met some interesting and funny people while doing so. :)

  12. there should have been a law to say smokers could have a smoking room, or better still get the nons smokers locked up in a room and leave us smokers alone.

"k" staff don`t have to put up with smokers they knew there would be smoke when they took the job

  13. as a smoker i can see both sides of the non-smoking law, but if the bar/pub/club/.etc has the provision and the inclination to provide seperate internal areas for smokers then what is the problem?

the whole law is a sham anyway! how can the government introduce a law that affecs so many people and has so much influence on the economy (both local and national) withoout going to a public referendum?? is that not illegal??

  14. Ok, there are probably alot of pro smokers on here that are gonna go mad when I say this but, I agree with the smoking ban. We had a huge argument at work about this with people saying "You have taken away smokers rights". But think about it. The non smokers had their rights taken away for many years. Going into bars and clubs was a nightmare and it was disgusting breathing in the foul fumes of smoke and coming out and smelling like an ashtray. I know it sucks for smokers to go outside in the rain etc but its not nice for people who dont smoke and dont want to get cancer either.

  15. this one for bad health.

  16. I totally agree with ga22a pubs and clubs should have a seperate room so people can go in and smoke.

  17. I think that everyone should have the right to make their own decisions, smokers included.  A non-smoker can choice whether or not to go into an establishment that allows smoking so it should be a more democratic thing rather than the lawmakers making everyone's decisions.

  18. smoking so should be band it is rong to smoke

  19. Why can't we have bars for smokers?  Keep the non-smokers out.

  20. I think the smoking ban should be extended, to EVERY place where the public are (even the streets - I am thoroughly fed up of walking along the pavement to and from work and getting cigarette smoke blown in my face).  AND the sale/purchase of cigarettes should be made illegal.

  21. Smoking areas partitioned off from the non smokers.

But... the Government missed a great moneymaking scam here, instead of jumping on the bandwagon they should have allowed smoking in bars providing-

    1.  An air purification system was installed giving out air as clean as outside

    2.  The systems had to be serviced and checked every 6 months

    3.  A totally separate area was provided for non smokers.

The money this would have generated by all the pubs installing an air cleaning system and the ongoing generation of cash because of the servicing would have been a welcome sum to the treasury and would actually have increased the number of people in work!!

That's our Government, miss out on that, but increase the taxes on private travel....

  22. NO..coz if there are non-smoker, they will also be infected and the smoker is really inconsiderate and selfish not only to us but to our EARTH..Save the Earth!!....and not only that do u know that the smokers will be infected less than the non-smokers?

Coz the smokers have something to protect them which causes the smoke to reduce the effect on them and the non-smoker will inhale the 100 % of smoke which causes yr lungs to damaged...so say no to smoking!!!!!

    Hope my answer is great..=)

  23. Only smokers understand the problem. Smoke rooms are a good arrangement where only the smokers get affected and the passive one's are saved. If the facility is not available where will the smokers go? If smoking is to be prohibited let the government put a ban on cigarettes.
