Smoking at train stations in England...?

Is it banned in any station full stop, or is there a certain criteria. I can't see how a completely open platform (not roof and no wall due to track being both sides, can be an inclosed space.

Am I correct?

it varies. many small unenclosed stations allow it, only on the platform, nowhere else.

In England they are properly known as 'railway' stations. Smoking policy will depend on the rules of whoever manages the station in question. I agree that a completely open platform is not an enclosed space where smoking is forbidden by law but, nevertheless, the operator of the station is perfectly within its rights to ban smoking just as is any property owner. There is a pub near me which doesn't allow smoking in one of its gardens which is used by children, for example.
