  2. never heard of a hospital you can smoke.

  3. 1) There are more oxygen FITTINGS (tubes, etc) in the room. These DO leak, and the tendency fowards fire is greater.

    2) Why would you want to subject an already severely ill patient to second-hand smoke?

    3) Most ICU patients have to have a breathing tube installed for at least a short time. Smoking (direct by the patient or indirect by the visitors) makes for a more difficult recovery when the tube is removed..

It depends on local laws, but I am not aware of too many hospitals that still allow smoking in the hospital room, or even in the building.
