Smoking or non-smoking?

I am booking a hotel. I am planning on having guests pass through. I do not smoke but I do not mind those who do. Would a smoking room or a non-smoking room accomodate more guests?

  1. smokers should be well accustomed to going outside

  2. Smoking/non-smoking won't make a difference if guests can vist or not (or I don't understand the question)

Some hotels officially don't permit guests but whether you tell them or not is a different matter.  If your guests are smoking then you have to get a smoking room or they smoke outside

However, maybe it's me being dumb, but why would you want to stay inside a hotel room when you are on holiday?  I would say get out there and visit the city (I assume in the Netherlands as this is the section you have placed it).  Far nicer than sitting in a cramped hotel room

EDIT - actually Harald it is not 100% true what you are saying.  Many hotels are 100% smoke free (even before the smoking ban) but it is permitted in your hotel rooms in the ones that allow it as this is not an area in which staff have to work - e.g. NH Schiphol Hotel http://www.booking.com/hotel/nl/nhschiph... QUOTE >>>"All 419 comfortable, well-appointed rooms and suites contain the following facilities: voicemail and ports for modem connection and wireless internet, writing table with desk lamp, interactive 20-channel television with internet and e-mail, a wake-up and message service. Both smoking and non-smoking rooms are available. The hotel offers 24-hour room service for guests’ ultimate convenience"

  3. From the first of July this year it is forbidden to smoke inside buildings anywhere where people work, with only a few exceptions (psychiatric hospitals and such). This means also pubs, train stations, theaters and roofed stadiums (even for Mick Jagger during a concert!). The official reason is to protect people who have to work there. The unofficial reason of course is to try to refrain people from smoking.

As a hotel is also a place where people work. It is also forbidden to smoke in the hotel, not even in your room.

The start of this law cause quite some turmoil, for instance small pubs who say they have no personnel to protect, only the owner who is a smoker. And of course people believe Mick Jagger and others might not want to perform in the Netherlands' biggest stadium if he's not allowedd to smoke. And finally: it is a bit strange if you're not allowe to smoke in a "coffee shop" where you won't go for a cup of coffee.

It is quite difficult to find English sites with information about this. There are quite a lot in Dutch however, like: http://rookverbod.jouwpagina.nl/

  4. When booking a hotel you can either choose a smoking or a non-smoking room, you can also smoke pot legally in a hotel room if the hotel permits smoking as it is your residential area while you stay there. When I was last time in A-dam in April, I did book a smoking room but when I got there I found out that smoking is restricted in the whole hotel. So if it is a big issue for you I suggest you call the hotel itself before booking a room there. Have fun in the best city on this planet! :D

  5. maybe a room with a balcony or somthing, im a smoker and i respect people who do not smoke but i hate it when i am visiting with someone in a hotel or large apartment complex and i have to walk a long way to smoke so a balcony would be ideal so smokers can just step out and non smokers wont be forced to smell the smoke
