Hi,

I got a violation ticket in ny for smoking in a train station. I also forgot my ID that day and so all I had was a student ID. Since I'm from out of state, I just told them I was staying at a hotel, so they just wrote down some b.s. address he made up and gave me a ticket. My question is, all the information he really have on me is my name, birth date, and cell phone.

Do I really have to pay?

  1. This is a clerical error and can be corrected any time.  The fact that you were guilty of the offense does not change, therefor you still have to pay.  If you don't pay expect a warrant for your arrest.

  2. Yeah you do...by having your cell phone number they can contact the company, who has your address details on file

  3. That's up to u, if it was me then I probably would not pay it, the way they treat smokers has gotten out of hand

  4. "Forget about it" as they say in the Italian sections of Queens.

  5. Heck no. there is no way to prove that.

  6. Of course.  All that means of course is that the letters they send after you fail to pay will go to a fake address, which means you won't get them.  You also won't know about the arrest warrant until you get arrested.  Yes, you can get a warrant for something as minor as that...not paying your fines and the late fees becomes a contempt of court.

  7. Typical adolescent response. I did the crime but I'm looking for a way out. It's been said you'll never be an adult if you won't accept responsibility for your actions. Be an adult for a change and face the punishment for your crime!

  8. That's enough for the ticket to stick.

  9. Your name and date of birth is all that is needed to issue a warrant. You can pay now, or pay later. It will be more later, once warrant fees are added.
