Smoking weed, consequences?

Someone deleted my question because it was "illegal"...so let me rephrase:

I'm a lifeguard at the pool, and most of the kids I work with smoke weed. Let's say hypothetically someone wants to try it, but this person is kind of nervous that this person would

a) kill herself coughing because she doesn't smoke anything

b) Get caught (by parents/police/supervisor)

c) Be really out of it and not notice if anything happens at the pool, and not be able to do her job right.

...I don't know, the other lifeguards will guard the pool and manage everything and yet be high.

So I'm wondering, if someone hypothetically wanted to try it, what are the chances that she would be tempted to do it again, get caught, or be reaaaalllyy affected by it? And do you get in huge trouble if caught?

No, you'll cough, but it's nothing serious.

Can't say if you'll get caught, but if you're worrying about getting caught chances are you'll get paranoid and freak out. Which fun is not! Your heart will be pounding and you'll be convinced you're about to die.

I wouldn't do it while working as a lifeguard. You don't have a tolerance for it & if you're anything like me you'll be a total zombie afterwards. Like alcohol, marijuana is an impairing drug and if you had to rescue someone you could potentially s***w up, which could lead to very serious legal consequences, much more serious than merely getting caught with it.

If you really must try it, knowing the risk of addiction and what stoners are like (just look at the peculiar pothead typing in one of the replies here), do it some time when you're off work, don't have to drive, and in a mellow, safe setting with friends.

Hypothetically speaking - I wouldn't want to be the lifeguard with pot in their system when that kid drowns/almost drowns/is a vegetable and my employer starts drug testing those at the scene...that said, try it if you want to - just not at work.  You are there to save lives - it's important to be alert when you are at work.  After work - well, that's your business...

Good question, i smoked weed before alot of people here were born. #1,you wont kill yourself coughing, just don't inhale to much smoke too quick. #2 Yes you have a chance of getting caught. Do you know your Parents opinion on the Subject. If they are truly against it,don't do it,you will alienate them,and they wont trust you. And trust is a hard issue to resolve,if you break it. #3 Don't do at work,bad idea,the list is to long on that,so don't do it. The old rumor was you start with weed and go to other drugs. In all the weed smokers Ive known (alot) Ive never seen this. If you are busted,it depends on prior police record,if you have none you are good on that, Amount,unless you are popped with a couple of Oz's you would get probation,community service,drug classes. You did not state if you were a minor,so i cant tell you exact laws. I guess it comes down to this,do the pros's out weigh the cons? Answer that and you will know,what to do.Don't let Friends influence you make up your own mind. I'm not against weed believe me,we should legalize it. I love the part of my job when I have to repeat every thing over and over again to the pot heads.  They are so out of it that they are unable to interpret simple instructions.  Luckily telling a pot head to sit on a bench is nothing like watching a child drown due to the fact that the lifeguard was stoned.  Guess who would be going to jail for that one.......

smoking weed, causes paranoia, so if you were to smoke before you clock in, your eyes may look glossy(wear shades), you may smell like weed(spray perfume), and your breath will smell like smoke(chew gum). You'll be fine, and definately on point!!!

1. you could loose your job and have a hard time finding another.

2. smoking weed habitually will cause you to gain wait (get fat.)

3. you won't go to jail for it, but you can end up on probation with really stupid mandatory counseling.

4.It does tend to be addictive, if you do it once, you are likely to do it again.

5. Causes brain damage for real, and can contribute to the formation of lung cancer.

as a part-time smoker...

I can tell you that it's not a good idea to smoke before, or during work... you'll get spacy and make mistakes...and in your case someone could drown.

save it for when you get home and you can relax without posing a danger to others.

Marijuana isn't that big of a deal...just be responsible.  That applies to everything in life.  Try to keep everything in moderation.

My parents would disown me if they found out." - that's a good reason to NOT do it AT ALL.  That to me says you are too young to be trying things that you could get "disowned" for.

Seems you have this dying need to satisfy your curiousity.... if you're going to do it, do it in private regardless...not at work...that's just dumb.

this is why they have drug test's where you wk. to protect your fellow worker. this means you have a clear mind at all times. do this on your own time never at wk.

Anybody who smokes that stuff while they are doing their job, especially when it is a job where peoples lives could be in their hands, should be fired from the job and locked up for a long time, and if I was to see them doing it, I would be the first in line to turn them in.Irresponsible hardly covers it.

Listen, if you are going to try pot - DO NOT do it while at work! You have a VERY serious job - children's lives are in your hands! Others may get stoned and do it (which is horrific) but they also are used to being high - you aren't! What are you going to do if you get baked and a kid drowns? How are you going to live with yourself let alone the gross negligence resulting in death charges you'll be facing. If you are going to do it, as most kids do, do it on a weekend night! If you have this on your record, you can kiss student loans good bye and good luck getting any scholarships. So, unless your parents are rich and you don't mind potentially killing a child - go ahead, smoke up at work.

Edit: Don't do it at home. Jesus, you really can't think of another place to get stoned besides work or home!? Has there EVER been a thought in your head past your own pleasure?  Those kids and folks at that pool depend on your actions to save them if they get into trouble.  How the h**l are YOU going to live with yourself if you're high when there is an emergency and you're too F#$ked up to deal with it.

To sum up your questions into one response:  You could be arrested for possession of cannabis, you could lose your job, you could become unable to pass a background check for a better job, some poor kid might drown while you are too high to notice him/her.  Are these enough good reasons to NOT USE MARIJUANA?
