Smooth sailing for China’s Zhengming Wang and Chen Jin in the German Open GP Gold
In the opening round of the German Open GP Gold 2011, China’s Zhengming Wang and Chen Jin easily defeated their opponents to book a place in the round-of-32. Zhengming got rid of Rune Ulsing of Denmark in straight sets that took only 30 minutes. Former
champion of the German Open, Chen Jin consumed just 26 minutes to crush the qualifier Kenn Lim from Malaysia, in straight games.
Zhengming, the young shuttler of China, is also number eight seed in this event, found no trouble in beating the Danish. Right from the start of the opening game, the Chinese was leading by a difference of 11-9, in the opening half of the first game.
After the break, Zhengming played a game of the highest class by never sparing any chance for the opponent to dominate the game. The opening set took 16 minutes and the Chinese won it by 21-15.
In the second set of the match, the Danish was always trailing behind the Chinese, who belongs to the elite class of the game. The number eight seed continued his smooth run in the second set as well. He faced no trouble from Rune throughout the game
and finished it in 14 minutes with the same score of 21-15 on the board. In the second round, Zhengming will be competing against Anand Pawar of India who delivered remarkable performance in his the first round match against Iva Sozonov from Russia.
The ruling world champion and former German Open champion, Chen Jin of China, thrashed Kenn Lim of Malaysia, who was a qualifier in this event. It was a completely one sided match which proved that Chen belongs to a different level of the game. The
Chinese, who is number two seed in the event, won the opening set in just 14 minutes with a stunning difference of 21-5.
The Malaysian worked hard in the opening points of the second game, but failed completely to match the speed of the Chinese. He was sprinting towards the figure of 21, and he got it by consuming only 12 minutes in the court. The final score of the
26-minute match was 21-5 and 21-5. The second seed will take on Yan Kit Chan of Hong Kong, who defeated Henri Hurskainen of Sweden in a three set match in the opening round of the tournament.
Zhengming Wang and Chen Jin are among the seeded shuttlers in the German Open GP Gold 2011, along with their experienced compatriot and top seed Lin Dan. These men’s singles players of China are in strong position to win the tournament in the absence
of Lee Chong Wei, Taufiq Hidayat, Peter Gade and the last year’s winner of German Open, Bao Chunlai. All of the top players, who are not playing in this event, will be in action in the prestigious event of the All England Premier Super Series 2011, starting
from the 8th of March.
