Question:

Snail and Slug problems?

I am looking for a way to get rid of the snails that are destroying my flowers. I won't use commercial snail bait since it is yummy to dogs and can kill them. I've used Sluggo, but I am not sure of it's effectivness. I read somewhere that coffee grounds will repel them. Any suggestions are welcome.

  1. Try putting a metal divider around your flowerbed. It's like a long strip of sheet metal for gardens. The snails can't crawl over the top, sharp edge, and it will keep them out. You may be able to find them in colors. Just bury it halfway in the dirt, and leave about 3 or four inches above the soil. I hope this helps.

  2. There are hundreds of ways to deal with slugs, many of them are old wives tales. Beer is a winner if you dare give it away, coffee works but is expensive, salt is good but washes away. Best of all is get out there on a wet evening and pick them all into a bucket and drop into the local river for the little fishys to eat. Recycling at its finest. You may think there are too many to get but this system is permanent and they soon go down in number. Its very satisfying aswell. PS wear a glove - it gets very gooey.

  3. Slugs are attracted to the smell of beer. Find some shallow  pans or bowls and fill them with beer. Place them at the soil level so the rim is level with the ground. The slugs will be attracted to the beer and will fall into the pan and drown.

  4. Beer...put it in mayonaise lids...butter dish lids....lids. Fill them with beer and watch how the snails crawl to it and drink themselves to a merry death. It really works...try it!

  5. a  few circles of copper wire around the base of the plant should do the trick.   Google it if you don't believe me - it works
