Snails inside the garden pond?

I've recently noticed a lot of small snails inside the pond and was just wondering whether or not they should be there.

Are they supposed to be there? and will they affect the rest of the pond in anyway?

  1. they would be 'pond-snails', which arrived as larvae on the feet of visiting birds.  Completely harmless, and actually desirable in your pond, as they eat algae.  An important part of your pond biotope.

  2. snails can help clean the pond but they can over take also if you start to get to many remove some by putting a lettuce leaf in the bottom at night and remove it with the snails in the morning

  3. Put ia an S car and they'll go

  4. yeah thell help it keep them!

  5. Snails that live in the water are good for helping to keep it clean !  They eat the algae that has a tendency to grow in ponds and fish tanks.  If you have a pump in the pond, I'd put a screen over the intake, don't put the screen 'flat' over the end of the intake... shape it so that it extends beyond.. either by making a ball shape, or cone, etc.  This will prevent anything from blocking the intake by getting sucked up flat against it.
