Snake tank?

Question

Hi, I am planning to build a snaketank. building a tank 6x2x2 with glass slideing doors making the tank with mdf or plywood.

Would i need to treat the wood with anything? was thinking of puting a fablon. to cover the wood make it smooth to clean

Becasue would to need to spray the tank with reptile bacteria cleaner. to keep things clean or would I need to do that on the wood?

Plywood is better. If mdf gets wet it will start to disintegrate if you're not careful. I made my iguana tank and just painted it. I suppose you could varnish it with an outdoor varnish so you could wipe it down. Fablon would do the trick just make sure you seal the edges with bathroom sealant to stop water getting under it (or into the wood). You should put ventilation holes in it too. My ig has two holes at the bottom on one side and two at the top on the other. The corn snakes tank has one long one across the top at the back. You can buy plastic mesh things to put in the holes.

what type of snake is this? anyway I think plywood will last longer.

melamine is defo the best wood to use for the reasons mentioned.Also remember that mdf is just basically sawdust glued together in different densities.When the wood heats up under the basking light/heat mat or whatever heat source you use,it starts to give off vapours which are not good for reptiles.Try cutting a piece with an elecric jigsaw and you'll be able to smell it for yourself.Use melamine and you dont need to cover with paint or varnish (which would need to be toxic free).You can spray your cleaner straight onto the surface and wipe clean.

use melemine wood. its easy to wipe down and holds humidity good without ruining the wood.
