  1. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF THEM THE MISSISSIPPI RING-NECK HAS A ORANGE RING -----NOT SURE BUT I THINK THE YELLOW ONE IS THE TEXAS RING-NECK . NOT POISONOUS BUT HAS A MUSK GLAND AND WILL STINK IF YOU PICK IT UP AND HANDLE IT . HARD TO WASH IT OFF AND IT DOES STINK .

  2. Yep, Diadophis punctatis... ringneck snake.

There's a lot of debate over whether they have any venom or a toxic saliva... one school of thought says that since they eat things like ant larvae, centipedes, earthworms, etc., they probably have a slightly neurotoxic venom or at least saliva with a neurotoxic kick to it, BUT, even though they may musk and try to get away, they're typically pretty docile snakes, and considering their HUGE size (I believe one or two subspecies can reach lengths of a whopping 20 inches), they can't puncture human skin, so even if one were to bite you, it would be completely harmless. Sooo, if you're an earthworm or a very small slug, or an ant larva or a termite or something along those lines, yes, they're deadly. If you're a human being, you're deadly to it.

There are several subspecies throughout North America, so without knowing what state you're in, and even what region of that state, we can't narrow down the subspecies, but it should be something along these lines:

  3. Sounds like a ring-neck snake. Totally awesome! One of my all time favorites. Its not dangerous at all.  It would be best if you take it outside and release it.
