that snakes are all as bad as people make them out to be? I don't think so, and maybe that is just because my daughter has 2 at her dad's house and they are not that bad. She is 10. She has a colombian red tailed Boa Constricter, and a king snake but not a cobra. Plus she is thinking about getting a ball python. Do you think that any types of snakes are to dangerous for a girl who is 10 to have?

  1. Cobras are good..we are easy to train and make good security.  You just let us out at nite to silently protect those in the house.  Any intruder and we quickly zap them.

All snakes can be dangerous unless you've been properly trained to handle them.

  2. Red tails, kings and balls do not get horribly big, 5-6 ft at the most.

Those are fine for the general population to keep as pets.

I am snake sitting my daughters ball, she is a nice little snake.

The rule is, for every 4 feet of snake, you need 1 handler, so if you have a 7 ft snake, you need 2 people there every time the enclosure is opened, even if you are just changing out the water. It is a safety rule, and most people do not follow it.

You can not purchase a venomous snake in the US, nor can you legally keep one without permits.

I used to play with cottonmouths as a kid, lol, my dad got mad, but then he taught me how to ID snakes, and the ones I could or could not play with!

I have always loved reptiles and think that it is healthy for a child to be taught that snakes are not scary, slimey things to be afraid of. You might be surprised how many 'big strong men' will run, screaming like a little girl at the sight of a pet snake!!!

  3. personally,i think...

...YES.unless,you are sure that you CAN manage.

  4. I think with assistance from the parents, a child could successfully own a snake. Obviously, responsible pet shops won't sell a dangerous snake but smaller children should be exposed to more beginner staged snakes.

  5. no not really unless they are venomous but you don't want to get something like a Burmese python as they will get to big really quickly i know cause i had one when i was about 10 i have a ball python and its fine and they normally live for a long time so stick with ball pythons

  6. I think snakes are good pets b/c they are so easy to take care of. My little brother go a ball python when he was 11 and everything was fine. Ball pythons are one of the easiest snakes, they are very docile and they only get to be between 4-6 ft. long (depending on the s*x). I dont think you would have any problems with a ball python, but that boa cant get like 10 ft. long so make sure when she is at her dads he is keeping an eye on her with those snakes.

  7. i love snakes will have them in my life forever they make really cool pets... i love only two breeds red tail boa and ball pythons even the albino

  8. King Snakes are great for pets.  Python's and Boa's are good also, as long as they don't get too big.
