But im not sure if i should buy one i really like them and i am facinated by them but im afraid i will get bored of it and really dont want that to happen if i do in the end get one. So my question to you guys who actually own them is whats it like are they as great as they are made out to be in some forums or are they something that really does get boring after a while?

I have been looking at getting a hogg island boa and beleave this is the snake i would buy if any.

  1. i dont own 1 but my freind does

    dude there awesome

    just them eating is entertaining

    plus ther fun 2 hold

u shud get 1 but there expensive

  2. yeh they are cool pets, thy are so fasciniating to watch, just watching them explore and slithering everywhere, also feeding them is fun to watch

  3. Snakes are awesome pets.  I have 12 right now.  They can be a lot of hard work~~ mites, upper respiratory infections, shedding not complete, dehydration, etc.  As far as me telling you whether you would like them or not and whether they would get old to you.... well that is something you will have to find out for yourself.  And make sure that feeding them is not a problem for you.  Sometimes you have to force feed.  And you have to get climate, temp, and humidity at the right range for them.  I wish you luck and hope you consider the pros and cons.

  4. If you want a snake you should do some research first and get to know all you can about the breed you want and all you need to know me I don't have one but this would be the thing Id do to get myself some facts on snakes period then go from there..

  5. i own a ball python. They are wonderful pets. They don't get big. They only get a maximum of 2-5 feet. These are great pets, and are probably least likely to strike out of any snake. They are always fun to have around, and i don't get bored with them.Snakes are wonderful pets, and i don't see why they are so feared.

p.s.- Ball pythons are great starter snakes. This the snake i recommend because you are just getting started. Good  luck!!!

  6. Go to www.repticzone.com and you will find a lot of information about many snakes (and other reptiles), including care sheets that will give you helpful information about habitat, feeding and other maintenance issues.

I suggest you start with something other than a Hogg Island boa.  They are pretty expensive for a starter snake.  Try a corn snake or a kingsnake (other than a tri-color, which can be difficult to feed if you don't have experience).  If you want to "trade up" to a Hogg Island boa after you've decided you want to keep a snake and don't want to start a collection, corns and kings are easy to sell or trade.

Snakes do not get "boring" to those of us who like them.  They are more likely to become addictive -- You start with one and end up with a collection.  Snakes require specific care, particularly in terms of habitat and food, but providing for a snake is usually pretty easy in terms of time and effort.  It doesn't require daily maintenance like a dog or a cat.  If you start with a healthy snake, keep its cage clean, and maintain the proper temperatures, you should enjoy your snake.  You can go away for a week or even two and your snake won't miss you.

If you have been thinking about getting a snake for three years, take the plunge.  You are much more likely to become fascinated than bored.

    Good luck.

  7. snakes are great pets...we have 5 now (we had 24 but had to give most of them away when we moved from texas to washington state).  right now we have 2 ball pythons 2 kingsnakes and 1 green tree python.  they all have different personalities.  one of the ball pythons thinks its arboreal and will climb on a lip that is inside the vivarium but the lip is too small for him so he eventually crashes down...and then it starts all over again.  the other ball python is really sweet and she enjoys being out and chillin on my computer desk.  one of our kingsnakes knows that he is really a tree snake and he is always climbing to the top of the plant in his vivarium.  alos if he thinks its time for him to eat and we havent fed him he will start biting fingers and trying to eat them.  our other kingsnake just wants attention.  she will come out from under her substrate when she is ready for attention and either stare out her vivarium or she will stretch her body up toward the top of the vivarium and sit there for long periods of time waiting for the top to open up...when the top finally does open up she will shoot out of the vivarium and climb up onto me.  our green tree python is very alert and is pretty sure that every time we open her vivarium that we are going to feed her...she will become very alert and look out her vivarium when we open the door.  if she sees that we have the squirt bottle (its a yard sprayer so we have to pump it to mist the cage) she will tuck her head under her body so that the water wont spray on her face.  we have had snakes for over 2 years and i havent gotten bored with them at all, however, my husband doesnt handle them as much anymore...he does still handle them some but i do all the feeding and "taming" and all that...of course he works much longer hours than i do.

    good luck with your decision.

  8. I own 2 snakes, one red tail boa and a ball python. I suggest that you read up on what ever type of snake that you want. And let me tell you that they are alot of work keeping cages cleaned and working the get temp. and humity just right for their safety.

  9. I think they're fascinating to watch.  I've had snakes for about... 15 years now and it hasn't gotten old yet.  How they move is really impressive.  Once I saw one of my corns hang motionless over thin air (I'd walked into the room and startled her) with only about a third to a quarter of her body actually holding on the something.  She was like that for over a minute.  Impressive.  Plus it's cool just looking at them - they're so alien.  And each snake (individual and species) acts a little different and has their own quirks.  Plus, if you're on a budget constraint they are a lot cheaper than a cat or dog.  Also not noisy or allergy-inducing.  And if you need to go somewhere for a week, just get a friend who's cool with it to give them fresh water.  Can't go wrong with that - as long as you're cool with the feeding part.  Even feeding frozen/thawed mice you have mice in the freezer.  That can gross some folks out.

  10. My husband and i own an albino corn snake. And we love it! SOmetimes we dont have the time needed to devote to a cat or dog. With snake there is no walks or lengthy play times.  You can ge tthem out often to handle so it gets used to you. That way when it gets older it wont try to eat your fingers lol!  Sometimes it does get boring when they are only "sun bathing" but watching them eat is awsome too!  They are ideal to someone who is either not very ctive, or someone with an extreemly active lifestyle that wont permit time other animals need.  Good luck to you tough!

  11. there cool, but don't get a boa!they get big!if i was you id get a corn snake or ball python.a ball python only grows to a bout 2-3 feet some up to 6 feet(i think the female get larger than males).corn snakes grow to about 6 feet.these two types of snakes require less upkeep because there smaller, and they take up less space.you can even put a ball in a clear tote.SNAKES ARE AWESOME PETS,don't be afraid cuz they can sense that,i don't think you'll get board:IF YOU GOT SMALL CHILDREN OR OTHER PETS IN THE HOME DO NOT GET A BOA PLEAS-I THINK YOU KNOW WHY

  12. i have a ball python and i cant say that ive ever gotten bored with him. lol. maybe im just dedicated, but i dont know anyone that  has snakes that has been bored with them.
