Question:

Snapper mower won't cut?

I have a Snapper Classic (old riding mower) with 12.5 Briggs and Stratton motor, 33 inch cut. I recently replaced the blade and it still won't cut my grass. I was told the blade may have been installed the wrong way, so we reversed it. It still won't cut the grass. I have no clue what to do, it spins when I engage it, but will not cut. I could do better with my daughter's school scissors. Any suggestions? PS They guy that sold it to me is avoiding my calls and not warrantying his mower.

  1. Even with the blades backwards SOME grass should be getting cut. Are the blades spinning or just the pulleys? Are you running the engine at full throttle?

  2. The blade needs to be installed with the bevel up.  If the blade is installed bevel up, sharpened and turns it has to cut.  If you hold the belt pulley can you turn the blade?  You should not be able to.  Could be the blade is not secure on the blade adaptor or the bolt is too long and not tightening down on the blade.

  3. have you tried lowering the deck?
