Snapping Turtle Question...?

I have a filter right now that was like 29.99 at a pet store that does pretty good cleaning the water and stuff but i have to change the filters every week is there a filter out there i can buy that either does not have filters u have to change or just a better filter system that would be ok to put in a snapping turtle tank???

  1. There is just no way you are going to have crystal clear water in a snapper's tank. You can try doubling up on the filters, getting a larger one, changing the water more frequently, or adding cleaner organisms (which the snapper will likely eat). Lots of luck. I figure I'm doing well when I can see the turtle through the water.


  2. Snapping turtles are messy. Any filter you get will have to be cleaned frequently.

    I use a sponge filter with a powerhead- they keep the water clean with minimal clogging.

  3. not knowing if you use a box filter or HOB, etc....I can only suggest the use of a pre-filter, as a general solution

    use large poredfilter foam to fit over the intake of the filter you have

    each week, simply remove and rinse the foam and replace it
