Snare ringing when hitting toms?

ok my snare is bugging the c**p out of me

i have tightened the snare at the bottom as tight as i can, added moon gels and evens e rings

and when i hit my toms it almost sounds like im hitting my snare( the snares are vibrating ALOT)

its really annoying and sounds bad

please help me

  1. The vibration from the toms is resonating the snare, causing noise.  Trying to mute the snare is a good idea.  You should also isolate the tom-toms as much as possible:

    Position the toms so their vents or air holes point away from the snare.  Ideally, the tom & snare skins will be close to perpendicular.  

    Raise the toms away from the snare, putting more distance between them.

    Change the tuning of the toms so they do not resonate harmonically with the snare.

    Tape the bottom skins or otherwise mute the toms.

    Get high quality hardward that doesn't vibrate excessively.

    Eliminate external vibrating surfaces in your playing area:  Put baffles around the drums.  Elevate your kit on a drum riser.  Hang heavy curtains on the walls & ceilings, to eliminate reverb.


  2. Maybe the toms are tuned too tight. Have you checked the springs of the snare beneath it? I had a similar because of that and replacing the springs did the trick.
