Snedeker blitz through the Royal Lytham, Adam just a stroke behind
The little known Brandt Snedeker will no more be little known. Instead, he will go in the third round as one of the favourites to win the Open Championship.
The American was not among the favourites to lift the Claret Jug at the Royal Lytham but his 66 and 64 in the first and second round, respectively, has surely raised his hopes for the maiden major.
His second round 64 is now a joint course record and by shooting 130 after 36 holes, he has equalled the record of Nick Faldo, which the latter achieved at Muirfield in 1992.
Brandt Snedeker currently leads the leaderboard by one stroke. Following him is the first round leader Adam Scott. The Australian shot 67 in the second round to go 9-under par, followed by Tiger Woods at 6-under par.
Brandt Snedeker and Adam Scott played some lovely shots. Their tee shots especially were sublime. It was a pretty surprising performance from Snedeker, as on the last three occasions he missed the cut at the Open Championship.
"My mantra all week has been to get the ball on the greens as fast as possible," Snedeker said. "Once I am on there I have a pretty good handle for the speed of the greens and I'm just going to try and keep doing that over the weekend".
Snedeker is sitting comfortably at the top and he feels that the pressure is off of him for now. He was also applauding the spirits showed by the fans.
"I have got a nice cushion now," said Snedeker. "I do not have to play the best golf over the next 36 holes. I have to play good golf but maybe not the best of anybody. The fans over here are great, very knowledgeable, and they applaud for great shots and
it is good to realise that a 25‑footer sometimes is a great shot".
Snedeker may have had the best round but the best shot came from a renowned player, Tiger Woods. In the 18th Tiger’ second shot landed straight into the bunker but his experience led him to hole in from the sand.
