...my cue has become a little sticky. I was wondering if anybody knows what I can use to polish it up? Would ordinary furniture polish work?

  1. You cue is most likely dirty. It needs cleaned, not polished. Here's the method I use, which was recommended to me by a professional cuemaker:

Get a Mr Clean Magic Eraser. You can find them at the grocery store. Cut off about a 1 inch strip. Soak it with a small amount of the highest concentration of rubbing alcohol you can find, and rub the cue clean with it. You should also grip the Magic Eraser with rubber gloves or a towel or something to keep from getting the alcohol all over your hands. This will not damage the shaft in any way.

  2. Gotta go with Scotch -Brite and bare wood

  3. A damp cloth should do the trick, never use sand paper of any grade on the shaft of your cue.

  4. Whenever I have bought a new cue the first thing I do is sand the varnish OFF.

Use a fine emery cloth and some scotch-brite and remove the varnish, it will leave you with a lovely smooth finish that will glide beautifully. In my opinion varnish is a big nuisance.
