Snooker Update: The 2011 championship league- Day one
The first day of the ‘2011 championship league’ has been completed successfully; the incipient tournament of the New Year is underway at Crondon park golf club, Essex. The championship is a combined venture between the match room sport and the perform group,
the non-ranking championship event will take place from January to March, with twenty five players participating in the event initiating the year’s snooker calendar.
The championship league specialist Ali Carter has led the event’s first day as he produced three victories out of the three matches he played; Carter has defeated Stephen Maguire with three frames to two, and Mark Selby with a convincing score-line of 3-1.
However, Ali Carter white washed Graeme Dott with a ravishing 3-0 victory.
John Higgins has been able to pull off two victories from three encounters. Defeating Mark Williams with three frames to zero, Higgins moved on to take the Scottish cueist Graeme Dott on. Followed by a close-call 3-2 victory over Dott, Higgins lost at the
hands of Shaun Murphy. The magician took the match by three frames to one.
Other notable players on the first day of the championship include the ‘Jester from Leicester’ Mark Selby and Shaun Murphy. Both players pulled off three wins from four matches they played.
Mark Selby has won over Shaun Murphy and Stephen Maguire with score-lines of 3-0 and 3-2 respectively. Surging ahead to find more victories around the corner, Mark however got hunted by Carter and Mark Williams.
Shaun Murphy has once again impressed by white washing John Higgins and Mark Williams with score-lines of 3-1 and 3-2 respectively. However he could not continue his impressive run as he fall prey to Mark Selby, as Mark recorded an astounding 3-0 victory
over Shaun.

Centuries – Number of marvellous century breaks has also been observed throughout the day, as Graeme Dott remained on the top with a century break of 137 against Stephen Maguire. Mark Selby pulled off a magnificent 135 against Mark Williams;
nonetheless, he scored another century break of 124 against the magician Shaun Murphy.
Another marvellous century came about as Mark Williams proved his class with a break of 119 against Shaun Murphy. John Higgins joined the club later in the evening with a century of 104 against his old rival Mark Williams.
Ali Carter the top seed for the day also compiled a 101 against the Jester Mark Selby; However Shaun Murphy scored 101 against the Scotsman Graeme Dott.
Prize Money – There is £100 prize money for each frame won in this round, however after the remaining matches of the round one, the tournament will reach the semi-finals. The prize money will be increased to £300 for each frame won in that
particular round.
Winner of the league gets the prize money worth £3000; however, the runner-up will get £2000. The players who qualify for the semi-final will receive £1000 each.
The winner of the championship league will gain an entry into the ‘Premier snooker league’ along with the prize money. Premier league is one of the biggest snooker events, as it will be televised on sky sports.
