Question:

Snooping and taking my exes social security number when I knew I was leaving him.....?

I memorized his SS number when I decided to leave him but hadn't dropped the bomb yet. It made collecting child support easier, that is the reason I did it.

I have been criticized for it lately, but I do not think I did anything wrong, and actually encourage friends of mine who are leaving their children's fathers to do the same.

Would you do this if you knew you were leaving and knew it would make collecting child support easier or am I just rotten?

  1. I'm still married & have no plans to leave at all, but I know my husband's social security number, too.  As a parent, you use your spouse's SS# often.  There's no reason why you shouldn't know it.

  2. H*ll yes I would!  I say Bravo!  When things were going bad between Bradley's father and I before he was born I seriously considered doing this and never once thought about whether or not it made me a bad person.  Who cares what people think.  Their opinion doesn't help support your children.

  3. I happen to know my partner's ss# by heart, because of filling out different forms and applications (he knows this).  I think it's fine to find out, as long as you only use it for proper purposes.  That way, if he doesn't pay court-ordered child support, it will go on his credit report.

  4. No this is soo right what you did I wish I had done the same thing but it all worked out. But no you are not rotten he is if he doesn't pay child support I would however make it point not to have children until I am ready.

  5. Yup.  I did it.  I have no shame in my game.  :)

I knew we were heading towards 'the end'.  He had given me his SSN for something, I think it was to pay his property taxes or something, I can't remember.  Anyways, I had it written down on a post-it note... And I kept it.  And it's still in my wallet right now.

I don't use it for anything at all.  I wouldn't do that to him.  The only thing I did use it for was to fill out the court paperwork for support/visitation/custody.

  6. I know my husband's and I still like him!

You didn't do anything wrong.  The form you filled out required an entry.  You filled it out.  It was information you were privvy to when you were married.  Wipe your hands of it and congrats on planning ahead.
