Snow Fairy wins the Queen Elizabeth 2 Commemorative Cup in Japan on 13th November
This turned out to be a compensating week for Ed Dunlop as he just saw his stable four-year-old mare Snow fairy winning the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup in Japan on 13th November 2011 at Kyoto after experiencing a devastating defeat with
Red Cadeaux in the Melbourne Cup last week.
"Snow Fairy is a truly unbelievable filly and what a ride", said Dunlop, speaking on his website.
This is second year in a row that the daughter of Intikhab has won this Commemorative Cup due to which she was first being considered for the Japan Cup Grade 1 but proved herself in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup Grade 1 winning by a neck.
Snow Fairy now has two alternatives to choose from either she can participate in the Japan Cup that is to be held on 27th November or the Hong Kong Cup that is scheduled for 11th December.
Patrick Cooper said, Anamoine’s racing manager, “As we said last year, it’s a very very short time between now and the Japan Cup—so we’ll see in a week or the next ten days”.
Snow Fairy has won an impressive five Grade 1 races with her star jockey Ryan Moore whom the trainer is extremely proud of:
“I’m very proud of my staff, and I mustn’t forget my jockey, Ryan Moore, who has ridden her five times and won five Group 1s on her—and I shouldn’t think many jockeys have done that with any horse, ever—so it’s a great day for my stable”, Dunlop said.
The most recent race in which Snow Fairy has very successfully proven herself had a lineup of eighteen, where Aventura finished second and was followed by Apapane who was third in line after the winner.
This season Snow Fairy has raced six times out of which she has won once, came second twice, third twice and fourth once. She got ridden by both Frankie Dettori and Johnny Murtagh, but was ridden to victory by Ryan Moore as is almost always is the case with
Snow Fairy. Where and how far the next race takes Snow fairy is yet to be disclosed.
