  1. Next January? How in the world would anyone be able to predict so far in advance?

    Here's their website: http://www.lesarcs.com/?lang=en

EDIT: Hey Madgreenbird...When we had record snowfalls in parts of the USA this winter and asked how this could be so if global warming were a fact we were told that global warming will produce MORE snow.

So I sort of wonder how is possible for global warming to be responsible for both more AND less snow.

Perhaps the really "inconvenient truth" is that no one really knows anything at all about predicting the weather.

  2. Hi

I was in Les Arcs in January three years ago, there had been a large dump of snow prior to our arrival - and there was loads of lovely powder snow to enjoy in all the Les Arcs levels.

I loved Les Arcs, probably one of my favourite aki destinations. The variety in villages / slopes / conditions were ideal.

We spent two days skiing on the La Plagne side too, having got the massive fast linked cable car from Vallandy (low side of Les Arcs). well worth a day trip, though you will need to set out first lifts and be prepared for long day skiing!

Generally in the Alps, the snow conditions seem to be deteriorating with global warming. This year, for example, the show was pretty late in arriving. However, who knows.. next year?  The debate around is global warning and its effect is well known and documented on the web, but it is generally agreed that the lower resorts in the Alps are  struggling for snow cover in recent years.

So I would recommend going as high as you possible with the aim of getting the best snow. Les Arcs 2000 is pretty good in terms of height.  Height of the  slopes is more  important earlier in the season.  Check out if the resort has snow blowing facilities too - this can help massively if there is little real snow!

One January, I was in Italian Dolomites and there was no real snow yet we could ski all day all week because of the show making machines-

If you are wanting real good snow, you might also want to consider Val Thorens in the Trois Vallees too? It is snow sure. I am a fan of this area also.

Wherever you go, have a fab time and enjoy the planning meantime.
