Question:

Snow in New Zealand?

We have some frequent flyer points to use up but we can only get away for a long weekend. We thought we'd like to go to somewhere snowy in New Zealand in June/July. We're not skiers, so we'd just like to enjoy a bit of an 'alpine' experience - cosy fires, building snowmen etc. can anyone suggest a nice place that sounds like it might fit the bill?

We do have a 14 year old daughter in tow - so it's not a romantic getaway !!

  1. I have just returned from Mt Cook in New Zealand, There is an amazing little village at the bottom with the Hermitage Hotel, Im pretty sure you could find it on google, Loads of snow, it will be brilliant in June/July. Lovely walks and you cant take a hour long boat trip around Tasman Glacier, there is a motel with cabins about 5 mins drive from Mt Cook village. It would be the only place here i can think of that would DEFINATLY have snow at the time of the year.

  2. Hamner Springs on the South Island.

It's a great place even if you arn't skiing. :)

  3. Hanmer Springs would offer you other things....and snow is a possiblity.....hot springs too. If you are in the area, Try Maruia Springs in the Lewis Pass.....lovely and more peaceful.

There is also the the TranzAlpine train trip from Christchurch to Greymouth. We went in July and had snow to play in at Arthurs Pass which was fun!

Otherwise I guess Queenstown /Wanaka offer you some pretty cool things and the scenery is hard to beat. queenstown being the adventure capital has heaps of things to do.

  4. Try Mt Ruapehu

  5. Y the south island!?

try the north island!!! id go mt ruapehu and probably stay in ohakune or taupo!!! then u get to enjoy the true kiwi experience but there really is some fantastic places to stay in ohakune!1
