Snow in Sweden at this time of year?

I've researched it and get mixed answers - at this time of year (early/mid August) will it be snowing in Kiruna, North Sweden? It's inside the Arctic Circle, so I originally thought it would be, but some pictures don't show any snow!!

  1. I've been there at this time of year when it has snowed, and have been in the arctic circle in winter when there was no snow at all!

You always have to reckon with it snowing but it's unlikely that there will be snow on the ground.

EDIT: Strange that I get a thumbs down for giving an answer based on personal experience. But then many people know everything better without even having been anywhere near the arctic circle.

  2. Usually it isn't, but it can.

In 2007 the first real snow came August 30th which is quite early. (link 1)

The article below is in Swedish but it actually shows that it snowed on June 9th of this year, but it was so little that it melted rather quickly. (link 2)

If it snows in the summer it tends to be during the night when the temperature falls but it then melts in the day when it gets warmer so you never really would go skiing in the middle of the summer (I'm sure that has happened though)

  3. no it don't! right now it's quite cloudy and about 11 degrees celsius or 51 Fahrenheit. and it will take a month or two before it start snowing.

  4. I think it snows for something like 7 months of the year, so it's probably getting ready to start snowing, if not already.

Wikipedia says : Snowfall usually occurs between November and April, but in northern regions, snow could fall from September to May and stay on the ground for almost 6 months.[30]

  5. no i live in Sweden and it's never snowed at this time of year yesterday i was watching the weather forecast and it's about 10 degrees (Celsius) up in kiruna at the moment
