Question:

Snowboard Wax: Hot vs. Rub On?

I'm waxing my board for the first time. I don't go very often, but I know that I should wax my board. Rub on paste wax is much more convenient for me but what are pros and cons of using paste wax or hot wax. Thanks everyone!

  1. The basic rule in wax is, the longer it takes to put on the longer it will last. Paste wax is fine, it just won't last as long so you'll have to reapply more often. In order of the longest lasting wax:

    iron on, hot wax

    paste wax

    gel wax

    liquids

A good hot wax can last up to 10 days on the slopes (depending on conditions and the type of base your board has).

  2. Hot is much better.  If you do not want to go out and buy the whole kit plus the wax.  I'm sure your local ski resort does it.

  3. HOT IS BETTER! ALOT BETTER!

  4. Hot wax is much better than paste.  It is worth it to spend the extra time/money for the hot wax.

  5. hot wax is the only worthwhile way to go.

    How to do it yourself:

If you dont want to do it yourself, any board rental place should be able to machine wax it for a pretty low cost.
