  1. oh man. i can tell the difference from year to year. if you get a new board, you will be amazed at the advances in technology. you will be faster and smoother.

mtx and btx are completely different. mtx is where the edges wave slightly to increase the amount of contact points. normal board contact on the nose and tail only. mtx has 7 contact points on each side. it makes sharp turning and riding on ice way easier. btx is where the board does not rise up inbetween the bindings. most boards rise up a cm or so. with btx, the board is like a u instead of a w. (thats the easiest way to describe it)

i ride a skate banana. it has mtx and btx. get one. it is the best board ever.

  2. Snowboarding technology has changed so much in the past decade. There really would be no comparison between a 10 year old board and anything now.  Within the past few years there have been countless new innovations in core materials, base materials, and overall shapes that have propelled the sport beyond previous expectations. As for mtx and btx: magnatraction is special type of sidecut that gives the board a wavy look. This employs 7 points of contact on each edge as opposed to the traditional 2. Essentially, magnatraction gives a rider increased edge-hold, especially on ice and hard snow.  A good analogy is how a serrated knife grips and cuts hard surfaces, such as a loaf of french bread, better than a flat blade. Bananatraction is a development in the overall shape of the snowboard. The camber is reversed. A traditional board, when lying flat, will have a space underneath in the middle. A board with bananatraction has a very mild "U" shape, so the middle of the base is touching but the nose and tail are not.  The shape is similar to a wakeboard. The purpose of this is that when you strap into your bindings, your weight will flatten out the board and essentially create the maximum amount of base on snow.

Both these innovations are going to be used in most Lib Tech, Gnu, and Roxy snowboards next year. Hopefully these descriptions helped you understand the terms better!!!
