Question:

Snowboard binding setup/width?

Hi. I was wondering how to configure the stance width of my snowboard bindings. I have a 158" directional Forum board and the reference stance width is 22.5" with a 1 cm set back. The reference stance according to the board are the middle (as in "second" set of holes for each foot). I am 5'10."

I found varying pieces of information such as set it so they're shoulder length apart or as wide as you are comfortable in a jump/crouch position or 20-22"

If I go by my shoulder length, I should use the innermost holes...

What I'm wondering is... is there a specific pattern I have to set the bindings at? Such as do I have to progressively go inside outwards? Or can I move 1 binding at a time to increase the width incrementally? If so, in which direction? I have no idea how centered or symmetrical it has to be...

I'm a beginner going down groomed trails. Not really interested in freestyle, if riding style and surface make a difference.

Any advice is appreciated

  1. dude pay $10 and have a pro go over it with you on the mountain.  They can mount it based on seeing you get in a stance, and most will make adjustments the same day.

  2. Woah! You are making a big deal out of nothing.  There is no special way to set a snowboard bindings except for the way that is comfortable to you.  Try the reference stance first, if you feel like your feet need to be farther apart or closer together, then change the settings.  You can move them however you want.  One binding, or both.  Experiment, it may take you a season before you find the right stance.

One thing, if you surf or longboard, stand on the board in your riding stance and have somebody measure your stance width and foot angles.
