recently i've gotten really into snowboarding. nice, but one major problem. i don't know how to snowboard! i live in Santa Barbara, CA, and have never been to a winter resort. and since the place where they give the lessons might be the actual resort do they have rentals to learn on? i would also like to learn how to take care of my stuff.

so i need snowboard lessons preferably in Santa Barbara, CA or a little further

  1. Well, there isnt any snowboarding lessons in Santa Barbara because there is no snow there and the elevation isnt high enough for snow. You would have to go inland.

There are some resorts not that far from the Riverside area: Bear Mountain, Mountain High, Mt Baldy, Snow Summit and Snow Valley. You can also go to June Mountain and Mammoth Mountain and there are also a bunch of resorts in the Lake Tahoe CA area. Most of these resorts will have packages for first timers and that would probably include rentals, lift tickets and lesson.

  2. How do you know if your into snowboarding if you've never done it? Its not as easy as it looks it takes awhile to learn and get good at its fun but don't go into it thinking its your new sport if you've never tried it. They do have rentals at most ski resorts so don't go out and buy gear just yet. As far as ski resorts around Santa Barbara not really sure where the closest one is though. I hear there is a lot of good snow in CA, Ive never rode in CA but have friends who have and loved it. Taking care of your equipment is a skill learned as you go along learn how to wax your board, and put a little furniture polish on top before you go out the polish helps to keep snow from collecting on top. Also your gonna have to wait a few more months before you can start kicking snow. Hopefully winter will come early this year but typically the season starts around late November early December depending on where you are for CA id bet on late Nov. early Dec. Good luck I hope you stick with it its an amazing sport that seems almost limitless once you start you cant stop at least I couldn't

  3. mountain high or big bear is probably the closest. Santa Barbara is like way far from most resorts.

like the 1st person said, how could you get into snowboarding when you don't know how to snowboard? i mean, you can be interested in it, but not be into it. who knows, maybe you won't like it when you try it.

in big bear and mountain high, the beginner lessons come with rental and lift passes. ask your snowboard instrutor, they have most of the answers to your snowboarding questions.
