I'm looking to buy a freeride snowboard. I'm 5'8'', 155lbs. I currently live in New York, but I'll be living in Seattle come next winter. What board should I get if I want to be sure It'll be adequate for both east coast and west coast riding? I'm looking to spend for around $250 or less for the board, and $100 or so for bindings.

Thanks

  1. Well dude I live on the east coast. NY, and i know what your talking about, I would suggest something with this new magnatraction, It helps you hold an edge way way betta than the traditional edges.

Especially when your on the east coast riding Sh*tty icy death, the magnatraction is just sick. And its great for shredding pow pow on the west coast. GNU has a couple decks with magnatraction, same with Lib tech> This years lib tech Travis Rice pro model has the magnatraction. ( he is the 1st pro to use this technology on a pro model.) He is also one of the best in the world.

For 250 for a deck , you cant get anything decent, you will have to buy last years gear, 250 wont get you anything that is worth anything these days.

Id man up on the bindings and spend like 150 and get the Burton cartels, or missions. The Burton toe caps are awesome and will help you keep controlling that nice west coast pow pow and the icy death of the east coast

  2. More than what coast you are on, if makes more difference what type of riding you will be doing.

Try this snowboard size calculator that will also give you some suggestions on what type of board will work the best for the type of riding you do:

I would say about a 155 to 158 would be the board for you - shorter if you are going to ride park and longer if you are going to ride the runs or powder. Brands I suggest:

Freestyle (park): Rome, K2, Gnu, Lib Tech, Forum

    Freeride: Ride, K2, Burton, Nitro

To get the price you are looking for, you will have to look for a previous year model clearance or internet clearance deal. Otherwise you would need to buy a cheap, lower quality board like a Morrow or a 5150.

For bindings, look on the internet for Ride EX bindings - you can usually get them for around $100

    Good Luck

  3. I don't think that you need to spend $400 - $500. Look for a end-of-season clearance and you will spend less.

The Lib Tech Magnatraction boards are more for park riding - since you are looking for a freeride board you don't really need to spend the money for this.

You should be able to get a year end clearance on a nice K2 or Burton for around $250 and there are lots of binding in your price range.
