i went snowboardin today n saw many kids in snowbords that strap on (not da tiny metal bars that come out from da snow BOOTS). i saw that they were wearin shoes that looked like they were skateboard shoes but more puffy and larger. im wonderin, are they skate or snow SHOES? (i want snow SHOES not BOOTS). is there such a thing. if there is, can u giv me a link to buy some SHOES like that. If there isn't can u giv me a link for skate shoes that might be good for snowboarding? Thanx! ^___^

  1. It seems like you haven't realized that the boots without straps are mostly rental equipment. Strap on bindings that use an over-sized boot(that may look sorta skatey) are what most all riders use.

  2. To snowboard, you must be able to lean your weight on to your snowboard edges. There are two things that allow this:

    1. On the heel edge, the calf presses against the back of the boot which presses against the high back on the binding and the toe strap transferring pressure to the heel edge.

    2. On the toe edge, the shin presses against the front of the boot which pulls the instep up against the top strap transferring pressure to the front edge.

Both of these require a high boot pressing against a binding. I think that this proves that you could not put your weight on a snowboard edge with just a shoe.

What you are seeing on the slope is people with snowboard boots with their pants pulled down over the top of the boot so that all you see is the lower part which looks like a shoe.

    Good Luck

  3. No those were not skate shoes or snow shoes, those would be snowboarding boots-which tend to have smimalar graphics and whatnot as skate shoes, snowboarding in shoes is unreal- there would really be any support and most bindings hit around your calf-not gonna work with shoes

  4. There's no such thing as a snowboard "shoe."  The idea of the boot is that it is tall and a bit stiff so that the energy from your body gets transferred through it to the bindings to the board.  Because of that there's no shoe that would be good for boarding.  Sure, you could try it but your feet would be cold, wet and your riding would suffer hard.
