Question:

Snowboard size recommendation for friend (improving)?

I taught my friend to snowboard last year and she wants to buy a board for next season. She can link turns down easy blue runs at this point.

I have a 150 Burton Feather that I used when I was at her level. I don't want to force her on the board that's the wrong size just because it's cheaper. I personally like small boards and realized that the 150 that was given to me was a poor choice in size (thanks to shop reps when I was a beginner and didn't know better). I'm about 110-115 pounds and am 5 feet and I ride a 143, though I lean mostly toward freestyle these days. She is about 125 pounds a 5'2". I'm looking for a second opinion because I know that I am partial to small boards, and would like to know if 150 seems to large for her size/level? Do you think it'll be maneuverable enough when she improves more and begins playing around more with tricks etc? If so, what might be a better size?

Thanks for your help!

  1. Use a snowboard size calculator for her:

If she expects to ride the park when she improves, size the board for freestyle riding (about 5cm smaller) I would recommend Ride, K2, Roxy boards:

    Good Luck

  2. I'm 5'8' and 150 pounds and all I do is ride park, and I ride a 150 for park and a 156 for like back country or powder, so I would say if shes doing all mountain or powder, then go with a 150 but if shes doing freestyle I'm saying a 143-145. Keep Riding

  3. 150 will suit her nice for freeride. If she tries freestyle go for 145-147.
