  1. all mountain board. Pretty self explanitory. but size really matters. Use an online size calculator or go to a shop. The shop is preferable. they will tell you the parfect size and the right board for the conditions where you live (East is icy West has pow)

  2. For a beginner you should first rent a board from your local shop or the ski resort. When you first start be ready for your butt to hurt because i assure you that you will fall the first time. Take lessons. when i started snowboarding i took lessons and now I'm barely ever falling (only in the terrain park!). And wear a helmet.

  3. If you're just learning, the type of board is not really as important as the length. You can learn on any kind of board. I would recommend going to a snowboard shop, asking them all your questions, then looking for a used board on Craigslist. Once you get good, you'll want a new board anyway, and you will know more what you're looking for.

  4. I think that you should buy an all-mountain board that will allow you to ride groomed runs or powder with enough flex to even do some tricks as you improve - a board that you can go all the way to intermediate riding.

Use a snowboard length calculator to determine the correct size for your height, weight, and riding style:

My personal favorite (my second board) is the Ride Control. I had a cheap first board and it didn't even last one season. A quality board like the Ride Control will last years and make a good early season "rock board" when you upgrade.

Do you have a Sports Authority near you? They have a clearance at the end of summer. Or you can buy on-line:

This board is going for $175 and the Ride LX bindings are only $60. Then go to a local shop and try on lots of boots till you find the best ones for your feet.

    Good Luck
