  1. It is great that you want to learn snowboarding. Taking a lesson would be a good idea. Many people taking lessons will have no previous experience either so don't worry about that. And age, you're still young. I was 38 years old the first time I got on a snowboard and took a lesson. So people of all ages are learning to snowboard. So you don't need to worry about that either.

The basics... well it is all about balance. You need to be on one edge or the other. To stop you just give it more edge. It is hard to explain by writing it down. If you take a lesson it will be easy to understand. It is hard to learn at first because you will fall a lot, so be prepared for that and don't give up.

  2. You really don't have to worry about being out of place taking lessons. From my experience taking group lessons (part of a 13 and older group), there was one kid about 14 in the group and everyone else was over 20. So just go to the website of your local spot and see if they have adult group lessons or private lessons are also pretty popular where I'm from. You're not old for a beginner. I wouldn't recommend going by yourself the first time out since snowboarding is quite difficult the first time and it may just lead to frustration and you quitting. You'll see more progress with lessons and will enjoy it faster.

  3. I was 16 when I started snowboarding and didn't take lessons. I would strongly advise them based on my experience. If you just go up to the top and tumble all the way down the mountain people get aggravated because you're in the way. You also get the people who think they were perfect the first time they tried so they'll make fun of you.

I was an instructor for 2 years and the most important thing about lessons is that in 1 lesson you learn how to stop and also make it safely down the mountain if need be.
