Question:

Snowboarding at Jay Peak, Vermont. Tell me about it!?

Jay Peak for a week with a bunch of kids for spring break. I haven't been to Vermont since I was a lot younger. Ive never ridden on powder, I live on the border of Jersey and PA so I usually go to local, icy mountains. Am I going to be able to handle the powder? Is it easier to ride on? Is it super super cold at Jay, should I dress as if I'm going to Alaska or something? Will I get lost in the powder! Is jay peak area a hick town? And if anyone could convince me to wear a helmet that would be a plus. Every time I go ridin helmets get annoying. So any stories of bad accidents would work

Thanks!

  1. Jay peak is awesome ive been there once before and its the closest you will get to west coast riding. It gets some getting used to riding on powder but its alot of fun and no fear of falling.. I like going to Stowe more and Stratton when i dont feel like driving so far up.. Have a blast and get ready for some back country riding..

  2. Jay is awesome: my favorite place to ride in the east (so far).  They get more snow there than anywhere in the east so you have a better chance of riding pow... if you get lucky and have a powder day just remember to ride with more pressure on your back foot in the pow and you'll be fine.

Always take extra layers of clothes on any snow trip as you will never know what you will need until you are there.  This past week, it was colder here than further north - it isn't always that way, just be prepared.

There isn't much around Jay, but I go for the snow not the party.  I stick to the resort the entire time I am there.

Wear a helmet! The stories I could tell... I spend 6 days a week on snow and have seen too much.  A kid hit a fence post, someone else hit a tree... concussions that put people out for hours.  If you break a wrist or arm you will be back next season.  If you crack open your skull... well I hope you enjoyed yourself doing it, 'cause that's all folks.
