  1. yes helmet, yes goggles, yes gloves or mittens.  whatever helmet looks best to you and has enough padding to be comfortable.  you dont want to be able to pull the chin strap off without unfastening the helmet so make sure its tight enough.  spy goggles are the most popular, but any goggles that are anti-fog will do, gloves, well you want to spend at least 60 bucks on gloves if you are gonna snowboard allot.  i recomend burton a.k.  you can get snowboard pants at wal-mart for 40 bucks or so, if you buy them at a resort probably 150 buckaroos for one pair is the cheapest you will find.  depending on how deep the snow is you might try some wrist guards, and butt pads.

  2. Well if it is your first time, you will need a helmet definetley. Also there are many different brands that offer good products and generally all ski/snowboard wear is of a high standard. For your first time I suggest you focus on protection more than style and then as you get better upgrade your equipment. I have not bought any gear in a while so I do not know the cost. You will certainley need gloves, get a thick pair as on the first day you will fall alot and need to push yourself up.

Goggles are also vital to protect your eyes from snow and the sun.

You will need 3 or more layers depending on how cold the place you are going is. 1st layer is basically a thin layer of trousers and a t-shirt. The 2nd layer is a long sleeved shirt. and the 3rd layer is the snow jacket and trousers. If you need more layers just add more of layer 2.

You will need snowboard socks, ask the shop for some as they prevent your feet from freezing.

One thing I would say is essential are wrist protectors. The first week of snowaboarding, my friend fell over and broke his wrist and that was him finished for the whole holiday. They fit under your gloves.

You should be able to buy all this near your lodge but I suggest you buy it at a local snow shop.

    Good Luck.
