  1. Congratulations, you are in for a fantastic experience!

As your instructors will repeat over and over and over, you have to have a neutral stance on your board, i.e. your center of gravity has to be centered on the board.

Your instructors will tell you you lean too much on your rear leg. That's a common mistake we all make for fear of speed and falling down face first.... But putting more weight on the rear leg will ony serve to get you down on your butt very quickly. The only place where you need to put more weight on your rear leg is in powder snow as you need to lift your board a bit to allow it to slide.

A tip: get yourself good shoes. Do not hesitate to change shoes several times at the resort if you rent your equipment, and if the shoes you rent are not comfortable. Uncomfortable shoes could "numb" your toes or a side of your feet, especially in your leading leg. your shoes should be tight (for security reasons), but not too tight, or you will get cold.

Another tip: find the most natural angle for your binders (your binders can adjust to various angles left or right from a "zero degree" facing you, which means that your feet will "shoe in" these angles). Your binders keep you stuck to the board. If your feet do not have their natural angles in the binders, you will feel it in your knees and your ankles (painful ligament torsions). I had to try many angles before I found those right for me. My leading foot and my rear foot have different angles. Once I found my angles, I felt very comfortable on almost any board I tried.

For boards, if you can get a Burton "LTR" (Learn To Ride) you'll like it. This board is heavy, large, and very forgiving. You can make plenty of errors, and still be standing up at the end of your turn!

Lastly, as another contributor wrote, the first couple of days are spent on your butt. You will fall, you will fall again, and you will fall again. Remember that this is only the initial period. Once you master the basics of balance (a matter of 2-3 days) you will definitely enjoy the sport tremendously. So don't beat yourself up if you fall repetitively. Just go back up again, and take this slope by the horns!!

    Best of enjoyment!

  2. you'll fall down alot for the first 2 or 3 days on the hill. Don't get upset it's how everyone starts

  3. The most important thing to do before snowboarding for the first time is to spend at least an hour stretching before the lesson.  This will make it easier to turn and it will hurt a lot less if you do it after your time on the mountain.

  4. Be prepared to fall 100 to 10000000 times. And make sure your boots fit.

  5. make sure u avoid a tree those are bad and remember to lean when u turn
