Question:

Snowboarding to Skiing, is the transition easy?

I started snowboarding when I was 24, now I'm 29 and I'd like to try skiing now.

I'd like only answers from people who did snowboarding then went into skiing, and those who ski primarily especially those who are learning currently.

  1. I started snowboarding when I was 25.  I became pretty good at it.  Then I started skiing at age 28.  I am 31 now.  I can still barely do blue runs with skis.

The basics of the edge control are very similar between two sports.  The key is still transition from one edge to another edge and edge and balance control.  In skiing, there are two boards and 4 edges to worry about.  Things like bending knees, look up and keep an balanced shoulder apply to both sports.

I think taking a lesson will help a lot in your progression.  Also practice in the green and blue slopes you are familiar with will help build confidence.

Also, I still can not get used to my ski boots after my super comfortable snowboarding boots.  Make sure you find a good boot fitter.  Comfortable boots are essential to your learning.

Have fun and hope that helps.

  2. I'm sure you've heard this before, but it's true(typically): Snowboarding is harder to learn and easier to master, and skiing is easier to learn and harder to master.

I've only been skiing twice(my third time will be Sunday!)The last time I went, I could ski perfectly, no lessons needed because I'm an inline skater and the two sports are actually quite similar. Sort of, anyway.

You probably should still take a lesson though, unless you skate. But skiing is tons of fun and the tricks are sick!!

  3. I started snowboarding when I was 12, and now I ski and I am 14, Im not so good because the way the two sports are completly different, make sure and don't cross your ski's and listen to anyone who is teaching you.
