Actually, you can use a snowmobile year round in Montana.  Granted, if you want to sled on snow, it all depends on the snowfall in the area.  The snow usually starts falling in October.  I've seen snowmobiles, on snow, in the higher elevations in late June and early July.  

Numerous places in MT host snowmobile races all year round:  The annual Alphalpha Days near Butte has sleds racing on grass in late July, and Lost Creek Raceway is an eighth-mile drag strip that has a snowmobile race class.
