The thing is, I'm deathly afraid of flying (and heights in general). I went to see a friend in California a few years back, had the first five airplane rides of my life going out there and back to Georgia, and never got over my take-off induced panic. (I would have preferred to go by bus, but the person I was going to see bought the ticket and insisted I come by plane since it was quicker.) So, knowing that I'll never work up the nerve to fly over water without some heavy duty sedation, I've decided to go by boat. I know it's expensive, which is why I'm job-hunting. I can look up costs and everything, but what I'm looking for is information on one-way cruises that would perhaps allow me to spend a couple months over there instead of a round-trip where I have to come straight back. I was going to ask a friend of mine to join me, but she's notoriously unreliable on these kinds of things, so does anyone with a lot of travel experience know of any sort of groups I might be able to join that would be interested in doing the same thing? This is going to take me AT LEAST a year to save up for, so I've got plenty of time to do lots of research. I'm just new to anything other than being a passenger on family road-trips, and need some starting pointers.
