I'm not in any sports and i hardly leave the house.

I weight 100 ( Very unhappy about this x] ! I've always been afraid to go over 100 pounds, i liked to eat =[ !) and i am 5'2 and a half.

The best time i ever got for the mile was 9:54. I've always wanted to be in track since sixth grade (i'm in eight right now, 14 years old). I never did because i'm way to shy (social phobia) and hoping to fix this over the summer with some councling ! =] ( I want to be very active in highschool )

Anyways, I want some tips to be a real good runner.

When I'm running its not that my legs hurt its just that I can't breath and get side aches!

I have been told many times that I have long legs, does this help?

And what are some good breathing tips while running for i can last longer :)?

  1. if you get side aches, it's most likely because you're not drinking enough water.  make sure you're drinking a lot of water before you run.  also, if your side hurts just below your ribs, it could be that you're breathing too hard, make sure you take deep breaths and let them out slowly when you're cooling down.  always warm up!!

if you don't normally exercise, a 10:03 is okay.  you'll get faster as you begin your own conditioning/workout routine.  i'm not very good but i run a 6:30 or so mile.  but i'm also in high school.

keep working hard!  you can do it!

  2. 10:-3-you won't start on the track team.

my suggestions- run in the mornings, the air is less

"polluted and smoky".  Take a break and put your hands over

your heads while running.  The more you run, the less your sides will ache.  I am 5'3 and i ran the mile in 8 minutes (not too great) and i'm in 8th grade too.  Long legs don't make you faster!

    Good Luck and work hard!!

  3. Yeah, don't be worry about being over 100 pounds..that's nothing. Building up muscle (which means gaining weight) will help you run better. Also, you will have to eat more than usual to run better, in order to facilitate your body's needs.

Hey, don't worry about weight....it's not your weight that counts, it's that you're healthy and exercising. Way to go! :)

  4. sorry but thats not a good time, a good time would be around  6 minutes

  5. correcting grammar would be helpful to understand what your speaking about

10.03 isn't a great time, average i think is 8 minutes in 8th grade dont worry, i know some kids who do worse

you could improve your running by running a lot and go outside

With your side aches, i used to and still sometimes have that  problem. To fix it, dont eat before you run and work out your core muscles with exercises like sit-ups.

I think long legs help, a lot because longer strides will make you faster, its the only reason my friend ( 6.4) is faster than me (5'1)

by the way, if you want to be on track long distance, you might want to bring that mile pace down about 3-4 minutes

  6. ahh your cramp! that means bad diet or something when your side hurts but yeah breaking under ten in 8th grade is pretty solid. for high school you have to cut that down a lot

  7. if you're 14 then a 100 on the mile is 5:00. i ran cross country when i was 14 and i got a 7:00 on the mile...so that's probably around a good-ish time.

btw: 100 POUNDS IS NOT HEAVY FOR A 14 YEAR OLD!!!

breathe through your nose, out through your mouth. helps with cramps.

  8. alright well 10:03 is an ok time for a beginner but you really need to bring that down.

Make sure you stretch stretch stretch! that may be why your getting side aches.

Also make sure you drink water.

Try to run at least a little bit every other day and if you dont think about actually running you will last a lot longer.

    Good Luck(:

  9. i think the world record is just under 4 min.  keep training and you will get better--you are still very young--it only stands to reason that your long legs will make you faster if you are running at the same pace--does your side hurt every time you run or just occasionally?  it may go away

  10. i dont really have any tips to help you with the running.. i'm looking for those myself

i just wanted to comment on being afraid to break 100lbs at 5'2'', 14 years old. i used to be the same way. in fact, i wish i was still at 100 and i'm only about an inch taller than you, 20 years old. it's not about weight. go by how your clothes fit and make sure you're eating healthy. that'll definetely help you be a better runner. ive got the whole social phobia thing going on too. if you find a cure, let me know ;)

    good luck!

  11. 1st the only way u can get rid of those side aches and improve your endurance is by running. everyday! u have to train your body physically and mentally. 10min mile is average, not fast, not toooo slow but if u want to get faster, get on the track and start sprinting some.  i would do speed work 2-3x a week  run 8- 400s(1 lap) as fast as u can and rest between each lap.

we used to do 1min laps in high school. and rest like a few mins inbetween. its hard work, but if u want to get faster u have to get on that track.  if u hate tracks like i do, u can run as fast as u can for a min (time yourself) and jog/walk for 2mins. for maybe a mile or too. that could help also
