So, I saw a news program the other day that stated that sometimes teens are getting?

too much information on sites like yahoo answers. Not just teens either, but younger kids as well. Do you think with everything we discuss in this forum, it is making teens want to get pregnant?

Also, I have a question from my law class at MCC, and the question states that sometimes people are getting false information from these types of sites, and releying on it. For instance, a woman asks why she is bleeding during pregnancy, and some certain users tell her that she is having a miscarriage, so she believes them, and goes to her dr immediatly. It turns out that she is fine, and so is the baby, but can you imagine the stress she must have gone through from the time she left the website to the time she saw the dr. Does anyone else out there think that researching your answer should be a MUST on this site. I mean they give you the option to research an answer every time you answer one, so why not use it???

  1. I agree that most people on here are not professionals and do not know what they are talking about, but the people asking the questions should already know this and judge the answers by how well they are written and how educated they sound - as well as researching the answers they get before doing something drastic!  As for the mothers who rush off to their doctors, they were already worried before they came here to ask their question, so it's good that they went to the doctor to get their fears resolved, and without a little extra fear they probably would not have even if something really was wrong!  I believe that this site does more good than harm, and I don't think it should be changed.

  2. If the person believes exactly what someone tells her on a site that is used by many different people that are not medical professionals then shes stupid. This site is for people to come and get advice from people that have been in similar situations as they are going through. I Don't think that you should have to research your answer before you answer a question, the people asking can do that if they want to. They just want to hear what others say about the topic

  3. people are usually on here looking for whatever answer they want to hear. everyone is going to get advice, whether it be from real life or on a site like this one. you have to use common sense when taking advice, which is unfortunately something a ton of people lack.

  4. Well I guess the smart teen will know to take it all with a grain of salt. The lady who was crying about why she was bleeding, well, got some good advice to go to the doc about pregnancy bleeding. We should also take a grain of salt with what the media portrays. It's not our problem if parents are keeping eye on what their kids are doin'!

  5. I'm 18 and pregnant, I can't really see why yahoo answers would make a teen want to get pregnant, but everyone is different I guess!

I love yahoo answers but I only ask questions on here that I know aren't going to affect my unborn child. I would never rely on something such as what medicine can I take from answers on here. Those kind of things require calling my doctor. Also I use this as an emotional support, once in a while when I am having a hard time, (as being a pregnant teenager is hard, especially when the father has left), I ask for advice, and I know another question was should I use his last name of mine, I like to ask questions on polls of baby names, and also home remedies for pregnancy symptoms, as I've had almost every one in the book!

I totally get why you are asking this, and I always ask myself why are they relying on that kind of information when I see a question that really requires a doctors information.

  6. i think it would be smart if people researched their question before asking it. i dont even understand why you wouldnt? its like common sense.

  7. I am sixteen years old, seventeen next month. I don't think i get too much information form this website at all. I am pregnant, although i'm not sure how far, i find out tomorrow. Reading the questions and answers on here have informed me a lot of what to expect, and have also made me regret even more that i wasn't more careful. Sometimes the questions get graphic, but parents should be monitoring what their younger children are doing online anyways.

As for the answers that people don't research to make sure they're right, i totally agree. I hate seeing answers to my questions that i know are wrong and it makes people looks ignorant when they do that.

  8. Because if someone is stupid enough to believe everything someone says on here its their own fault. If you told me you cut your hand and it was hurting and all red, and I told you it was infected and you should cut it off right away and you did it. Then your an idiot!  These sites are not meant to replace or to be used as an opinion of a professional. Half the time people just want to hear what they want to hear. Like women who ask 'can i be pregnant' the thing is they want to be and think they are. All they really want is someone else to think it too.

  9. she was already under stress worried about the bleeding. Though it isn't always miscarriage it is always important to get checked out anytime she is bleeding. No this doesn't really have anything to do with your question..but this is the pregnancy section and that was the only thing pregnancy related in it.

No i do not think it should be a must.. you can get information on the Internet to agree with ANYTHING you want. Pretty much nothing on the Internet is anymore reliable than this website right here. There is a disclaimer on the use of this website so take your law BS and shove it!

    1. I am not a teenager nor was i pregnant as one.

    2. the point of that was you are posting this in the wrong section.. it has more to do with law or the way yahoo answers is ran.. not pregnancy! I doubt anyone on here has ever given an answer, other than telling a teenager not to get an abortion, that would encourage teenage pregnancy!

  10. I think maybe a better name for this site would be yahoo opinions.  This site is for personal experiences and opinions of others. (i.e. what do you think of .....)   If they want researched info, they are already looking the answers up here, why can't they google their question and get the research themselves?

  11. people should never believe everything that is on here. especially the really serious stuff. somethings are fine...like just asking what other ppl went thru or suggestions. if you ask serious questions like that then you need to be aware that this isn't a dr website and that ppl are just saying what they think.

as far as young ppl on here..they need to be more supervised obviously and be brought up to make the right decisions
