BTW To those who will say Sara Palan is inexperienced , be aware she has a longer , more successful history than Obama.

  1. I was shocked, a bit

I think its funny that Obama can't whip his *** without me stumbling into 12 articles about it, but i can't find anything on Mccain picking his VP

  2. How come John McCain says that Barack Obama isn't ready to lead, when the person he picks to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency has a resume of being a mayor of a small town, and the governor of one of the smallest states (population wise)?

  3. it is interesting because he must have  picked her partly  to point out that Obama didn't  pick a female as VP...

  4. I'm ashamed of myself. All I had to do was ask, "What is the archetype that McCain needs to make a populist statement?" - then even I could have told you who he would pick.

Let's see . . . first he should pick a woman (so that the Democrats don't have the only claim to "first time in history" AND because Obama didn't chose a female running mate). Second, he should distance himself from big oil. Third, family values and all of that. Fourth, someone ordinary but lovable.

  5. With McCain picking Sara Palan, I will definitely vote for Obama.  Seems like a desperate move on the part of McCain.  If Obama were to be out of the picture, his VP is a good choice.  If McCain were to be out of the picture, which let's face it, at his age ... Sara Palan is nowhere near presidential material.  She voted against clean water this past week (for mining operations) which could really hurt the fishing industry -- which in itself is her business, but she used her position to influence people that were undecided. I live in Wasilla, AK, and her approval rating might be 80% - I wonder who did the survey though - because it seems to depend on who you ask.

  6. I don't believe that McCain picked her for the sake of gender equality in politics. He picked her to attract some disgruntled Hillary fans. But with his new position on abortion, the party won't last long.

She seems like a decent politician, but who is she?

  7. I think it's a non-issue. Obama will be the next President.

And how does she have more experience? She's been in politics for four years...and she's the Governor of Alaska. Come on.

  8. Never heard of her.

But since I despise McCain, it doesn't matter who she is.

Interesting choice, though. I'm guessing he wants to get as many former Clinton supporters as possible.

  9. I think she has great potential.  I admit that I need to do more research on her to know where she stands on the issues, but everything I've heard from her so far I like.

    Good question, BTW.

  10. So far, from what I've read, I'm impressed.  At first, when I saw the V.P. pick, I actually laughed.  I said "well played" and assumed it was a political play to try to gain female and Clinton supporters.  As I read up, however, the woman seems pretty impressive and, at the very least, adds a lot to the party.  She's a Union member, a NRA member, avid hunter (which means she will not support having our guns taken away from us) for drilling in Alaska, strong military views, strong family values (that's what it seems, at least), and, like McCain, has a son deploying to Iraq--which shows that 1) not only the "poor get sent to war" (bs line if I ever heard one) and 2) that she can identify with the American public when it comes to the war.

She has an 85% approval rating and for anyone who snubs Alaska is snubbing small America (small towns).  It shows that she is more for the average person than corporate and that she is for small business.

Of course, time will undoubtably unearth other not so fun facts, but as it stands now, she seems pretty good.  Like I said, I'm pretty impressed.

EDIT-- And, sorry, anyone who reduced their own salary to benefit the state earns points in my book:  "Palin kept her campaign promises by reducing her own salary, as well as reducing property taxes by 60%."

And, although she's Republican and, by party, opposed same s*x-marriages, she has passed several vetos to ensure that same-s*x partners gain benefits and fight discrimination.  I wish she was for same-s*x-marriage, but that would be asking for a lot in a Republican (one of the things I don't agree with in my party.)

  11. More experienced than Obama, values 100%.  Perfect Choice.  I'm not a Rep. and I'm going to vote for Mccain/Palin.....................

  12. I think it was a brilliant move on his part and someone else's idea.

Robert G, this has just been announced.  You'll be hearing plenty throughout the day.

Palin is a member of Feminists for Life, which I hope will answer the question once and for all if a person can be a feminist and pro-life.

ETA:  although, upon reflection, if he was going to pick a woman, Condoleeza Rice might have been a better choice in terms of her qualifications, but she's strongly identified with the Bush administration . . .

  13. Hypocrisy, coming from someone who is campaigning on the inexperience of Obama issue.

Edit:  But brilliant coming from McCain which makes me sure it wasn't his idea.   It will get those women voters who are annoyed at Obama's smugness and haughtiness (that he did not need the female vote).

  14. Ultimately it is nothing but one more act in the big Dog and Pony show that the corporate elite are orchestrating to distract people from the death machine we are all locked into. Just read all the responses on here--there are some well thought out answers, but everybody is using the same trivial sort of language that you would use to analyze a sporting event.

Meanwhile, we aren't really seeing much discussion about what either candidate plans to do to strengthen the dollar, protect the environment, reduce dependence on polluting, vanishing fossil fuels (ravaging the coastline for a quick fix should not be a viable solution for anybody who is sane). Both have shown an unwavering commitment to a foreign policy based around a continued mindset of Empire.

As far as Pal an, I heard she was a looker back in the day.

  15. Sara is an excellent choice. This is the first step of women permanently controlling Washington!

  16. It is great. I am happy she is with McCain. It is fun to watch the dEMOcrats sh*t themselves.

  17. She is a very interesting choice, in what will no doubt be a very, very interesting election.  The outcome of the election will be a change in American politics as we have known them to be.

  18. She's a great candidate.  I think she was a great choice.

I'm excited to see everything play out.

EDIT: I'm so tired of the only issue being mentioned on this board being abortion.  I have no problem with either of their stances on abortion.  Doesn't affect me in the least.  Not a hot topic issue for many people.  The economy, war, and energy and tax plans are much more important, at least to me.

EDIT2: She does has more relevant experience, at least she has held an executive position.

  19. IDK I know very little about her.

The one article I've read about her seems good, like the fact that she is will to go against her party like McCain.

    We shall see.
