Yes you can call overseas but you have to pay by the minute.

One alternative is to send a magicJack to your brother and if he has access to a computer/laptop with high speed internet access then he can call you and the rest of US and canada for free.  Also, if you have magicJack then you can call him for free.

MagicJack works great about 95% of the times as there are still a few wrinkles to be ironed out but all in all not a bad product, especially for the price ($39.95 + shipping which includes first year of local calling and unlimitted callling in US and Canada).

Some quirks:

1. sometimes have to dial twice before getting connected.

2. doesn't work that great with the headset especially if you are using the computer at the same time.

3. computer has to be on (I normally only plug it in when I want to make a call, loads up in under a minute).

4. call display doesn't always display

5. some firewalls cause problems but windows firewall works fine.

6. Voicemail is not very reliable.

Great as a second phone line!

yes, this is what I do! while on vacation in Germany I left my MJ there for my family, so they can call me for free with an US area-code!!

I just payed my MJ for the 2nd year...I use it since last year.....!

no far, MJ does not support any other country.....even with a toll free access code, I've tried it, but it does not work!!

correction: yes...you can buy credit now....just go online...just like skype!!
