So, the electric car. Does it have a special battery?

How big is the battery?

Is there more than one batry?

Is it possible for the car to charge the battery as it runs?

Is it a good idea to have an electric car where the background sound level is quite high?

More basically, how is the power supply of the electric car manufactured. Is it 'clean' manufacture?

What should I know about buying an electric car?

Do ey get stolen easily?

ta.

  1. In the UK check out/join the Battery Vehicle Society to answer all your questions http://www.batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk/...

The battery will be sized to your requirements, like asking how big is a petrol tank.

"battery" just means a number of cells which each produce about 1.5V connected together to give the capacity and current delivery required.

Cars can recover energy when slowing down when the motor automatically becomes a generator and recharges the battery.

Electric cars can easily be fitted with noise generators see http://www.electrifyingtimes.com/pikes_p...

even is the electric comes from "dirty" fossil fuel it is still much cleaner to use unrefiend fuel close to source in large constantly monitoed & maintained generators running at optimum load & temperature than in small noisy complicated infernal combustion engines which emit pollution right into peoples faces (in SE england life expectancy is reduced about 8-12 months by vehicle exhaust particulates etc)

They would be harder to steal if they are plugged in to recharge, as disconnecting unexpectedly could trigger an alarm

  2. The newest electric cars have begun to adopt Litium-Ion same as current laptop battery technology older electric cars tended to use lead acid battery which is the same as the battery in your exsisting vehicle. The main problem with electric vehicles is range, you only get about 100miles on the current units so no major trips but fine for commuting each day if you can charge it at night, the second is how to charge it, if you plug it into your houses power you more then likely are using either coal or nuclear energy to charge it, coal bad nuclear not so bad. More areas are adopting "green" renewable energy such as solar and wind but that is such a small precentage you are probably powered mostly off coal. The battery's only charge if you have a hybrid which uses a small engine to charge while it is running. Most electric cars are quiet, in fact the blind can't hear them most of the time so there is some safety concerns with them. I would think they don't get stolen any less or more then their gas powered cousins.
