Question:

So, is anyone else tired of this?

Now, you've all probably seen me around. I'm an atheist, with a capital 'A'. That much is self-evident.

But there's something that's been really biting me in the @rse lately, and that's those zealots among us who feel the need to go into every single question that mentions the words 'God', 'Satan', or 'Bible', and say something to the tune of, "God doesn't exist."

Are these blokes just trying to get their point count up? Do they honestly think they're making a valuable contribution by just repeating the same three words over and over again? Between the fundies spewing Bible quotes, and the iterative atheists, I'm starting to think that nobody is capable of thinking for themselves anymore!

Please, tell me, does anyone agree with me that this whole practice is getting incredibly irritating?

  1. Stay  away... from..  Yahoo!!

    use  your time wisely!!

  2. If you can't take the heat, there's a door leading out of the kitchen. And, bottom line, "God doesn't exist." You can't get around that bottom line.

  3. Yeah, I've noticed a few people who go around only saying 'God doesn't exist' over and over (and I've done it a few times because I couldn't think of anything more), and it is rather uncreative of us.

  4. Naw I love it here haha. Try another category

  5. yes, i do agree!

  6. Yes, I agree.  I was surprised that the atheists didn't like your statement.  I, like you, would like to have some honest, intellectual dialog.  I think it would be very interesting.

  7. It's particularly annoying when a very clearly hypothetical question is asked, and that is the response...

Question: "If all of the sudden, you found out that gods were real, hypothetically, which one would you has cheezburger with?"

Answer: "GOD ARE NOT REAL! RAWR!"

  8. They are just trying to stir things up and get easy points.  Its annoying but what can ya do.

  9. i am still amazed at people who claim to be 'A'thiest and yet spend about 98% of their time talking about the very thing they claim they dont believe in .

Isnt God's wisdom so remarkable and past finding out .

  10. I feel your pain.  Agnostic here.  Most of the time I come to R&S just to amaze (and amuse) myself at the shallow, ignorant questions and answers of some of these people.  I feel their contribution is to keep us on the alert by letting us know how they think and what some of them irate atheists and close-minded fundies might be capable of.

  11. In an uncharacteristic display of religiosity, I'll say to you, "Amen and Hallelujah!"

    I agree with you completely.

The rule around here should be, if you don't have something substantial to provide, bugger off.

And definitely stop adding drivel to people's questions. If you believe, fine. That means you can safely ignore every question that begins with the address: "Atheists,..." If you don't believe, you can safely ignore all the other questions.

  12. Well I am a Christian with a capital 'C'.  So I hope you do not mind me agreeing with you.

I think some of them are Atheist wannabees.  But do not know enough or care enough to really get into it.  There are also the 'God loves everyone no matter what' types also, who think that is all there is to Christianity.

Then there are folk who are just petty minded, and will ****** about anything they can jump on.

And yes, some just want their count up.

But no point in getting upset by them. And you never know.  some may 'See the light'

  13. It's annoying when the same (old) arguments get used time and time again(especially as I'm a Pagan, so don't hold with many of the arguments that crop in this section of YA!). Nothing wrong with giving your own opinion but if someone else has said it, and you've got nothing else to add then there's not really that much point to saying it. It doesn't add to the answer/debate. Perhaps it's an attempt to convince through peer pressure?

I find ANY kind of rant annoying (I admit to probably ranting a bit myself), but if ONE person finds what I say interesting/useful then that's all I can ask for. Points don't matter one jot once you've got enough to ask a few questions

    ---

Never heard of the term iterative atheist. What are they about?

  14. Perhaps you should also explain to your atheist friends that a belief that there is no god is NOT the same as "knowledge" that there is no god. Their assumption that the absence of god is a "fact" is just as annoying as when theists assume god's existence is factual.

  15. Who pays any attention to them?

    t

  16. Yes it is annoying, but they have a right to do it.  I usually just skim past their answers to something a bit more intelligent.

  17. I know what you mean.  If someone asks "Do you think God exists" those answers are perfectly appropriate, but when a Mormon and a Baptist are debating a bible passage, it's a complete waste of space to add only the comment "There is no God."  It's a lot like the people who cut and paste the same bible passage in answer to every religious question.  I don't think it's a reflection of peoples inability to think for themselves, I think it's a reflection of the idea that just by stating their opinion, they will some how sway people.  The point is, do we pause for even a second over a completely irrelevant answer?  I don't.

I still like a good debate, I just appreciate well thought out answers.

  18. It does get irritating if they are doing that for points. If that is an honest answer I guess it is the best one they have. No prove God doesn't exist,so what can they say. If it really bothers you put in the forum or report them as non-answer.

  19. It is irritating when people post the same answers to every question, Christians and Atheists alike.

    Think before you answer.

  20. You are posting, bud.

If you don't like the replies, consider shutting down.

  21. most definately! but, if it so annoying to you, why are you stil here?

  22. It's irritating to me because it essentially shuts down the conversation.  Yes, atheists believe that God does not exist, but quite frankly, if a question is asked to Christians, and atheists answer with 'God doesn't exist', what point are they really making?  They are only being antagonistic and making a bad name for atheists.  We have enough going against us to begin with, without needing uncreative hecklers.

  23. Im in full agreement with you and have said so in the past.

Atheism is stating that there is no proof of God or an all powerful deity. They are saying that due to the complete lack of any verifiable proof it is reasonable to assume that there is no such thing. They are not making a positive assertion. They do not have to. The burden of proof is rightly so on those that make the claim of a Gods existence.

However when you answering a question that you know for a fact that there is no God, you are making the same logical fallacy as the person who asserts that there must be a God because you cannot prove there isnt one. You are also being downright rude.

There is a difference between an Athiest due to your personal philosophy and being bitter and cynical.
