Alright, so my sister has a russian tortoise she keeps in a cage up in her room. The turtle is a BOY. The flooring is some kind of bark if you need that piece of info. Just now, she discovered that he is bleeding-and idea what this could be? And more important-what can we do?

  1. froe is right it's going through it's period, are you sure it's a boy

  2. You must immediately go to petco or your local pet shop and get a reptile blood clotter. This may not be the term but just say to the pet shop guy my tortoise is bleeding and i need something to stop it. You must do it immediately or the tortoise will die.

  3. the newts at the school pond would bleed if they were out of water for too long

    maybe its something like that

  4. It's going through it's period

  5. the tortoise hurt itself on the bark, that is not an appropriate substrate. The substrate should be much softer, and misted/wetted with water to prevent it from drying out and hurting the turtle, aka bleeding. Also in the tank( hopefully it is at least 50+ gallons) you should also have a uvb lamp, and a basking lamp, and the tortoise should be taken out in an outdoor pen for sunshine everyday, while closely watched of course. You should feed the tort crickets, earthworms, snails, kale, mustard greens, collards and occasional cucumbers, tomatos, etc. Also the protien portion of the food needs to be dusted with a calcium supplement at each feeding. You also need cuttlebones in the tank.
